Thomas W. Hunter

1931-2023

Thomas W. Hunter, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully Oct. 6, 2023, at UPMC in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Wellsville, Ohio.

Thomas had a fulfilling career as a meat cutter at Kroger's, where he dedicated himself to providing quality service to his community. Thomas at 14 years old started working at Wilson's Supermarket in Wellsville, he became part owner of the supermarket and was there until they closed. He took great pride in his work and was known for his attention to detail and friendly demeanor.

Outside of work, Thomas was deeply involved in The Wellsville Alumni Association, cherishing his connections with fellow alumni from Wellsville High School Class of 1950. He loved attending reunions and sharing stories of his time in school. Thomas formerly attended The Immaculate Conception in Wellsville, Ohio.

Thomas enlisted in the Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict. His time in the Army allowed him to develop discipline, integrity, and a strong sense of patriotism.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Flynn Hunter, whom he married May 17, 1952. He was also preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Hunter; his mother, Grace Stewart Wilson; his sister, Dorothy Weekley; and his sister, Parma Ludwig, and his step-father Frank Wilson.

Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Hunter Adkins of East Liverpool and Mary Lynn Hunter of East Liverpool, and his brother, James (Betty) Wilson of Wellsville. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Heather Nicole Materu and Scott Thomas Adkins, as well as his great-grandchildren, Isaac Adkins, Sydney Adkins, Constansia Materu, Magnolia Winks-Adkins, Alaska Winks-Adkins, Iris Winks-Adkins, and his great-great-grandchild, Oliver Thomas Adkins. Thomas will also be missed dearly by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Thomas's life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, at 4 p.m. with Father Leo Wehrilin of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish officiating at the Wellsville Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists. Prior to the service, visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on the same day. Thomas will be laid to rest Thursday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. with Full Military Honors at Spring Hill Cemetery in Wellsville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wellsville Alumni Center, located at 201 Third St., Wellsville, OH 43968. These contributions will honor Thomas's commitment to his alma mater and support future generations of students.

Thomas W. Hunter touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
