1950-2023

Robert F. "Bob" Wertz passed away Sept. 26, 2023, at East Liverpool City Hospital at the age of 72. He was born Oct. 7, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late William E. and Mary Alice (Morgan) Wertz. He was a graduate of Cody High School in Detroit.

On Sept. 9, 1972, Bob married the love of his life, Joan Kern Wertz, and spent the next 51 years making memories with her and his loving family.

Bob dedicated his whole career to the railroad, retiring from Norfolk Southern after 39 years of service. Outside of work, Bob found immense joy and fulfillment in his involvement with the Beaver Valley Choral Society. His passion for music and singing brought him much happiness, and he treasured the friendships he made within the society.

A devoted member of the Wellsville First Christian Church, Bob had a strong faith that guided his actions and provided him with a sense of purpose. He cherished his time spent worshiping alongside fellow congregants and actively participating in church activities over the years at University Heights and Seerley Creek Christian Churches in Indianapolis.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan; his three children, David (Christina) Wertz, of Georgetown, Pa., Julie (Kyle) Christopherson, of Westfield, Ind., and Mary (Doug) McConnell, of Aldie, Va.; and seven grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brother, William Wertz.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2023 at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with visitation one hour prior to service. Pastor Mark Blakeley of Wellsville First Christian Church will officiate. Bob will be laid to rest Monday, Oct. 2, 2023 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Ind.
