EAST LIVERPOOL - Matt Stipec Jr. of East Liverpool passed away suddenly Wednesday morning, Sept. 20, 2023, at the Cleveland Clinic while surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old.
Born in East Liverpool, March 4, 1943, he was the son of the late Matthew J. Stipec Sr. and Josephine Steiminger Stipec.
He grew up in Chester and worked as a home improvement contractor. At one point, he owned his own construction business and trucking company. Matt was a truck driver for over 40 years for various companies until his retirement.
Above all things in life, Matt's greatest joy was his family, especially the love of his life, Karen. They spent over 62 wonderful years together raising their loving family. For over 40 years, his favorite pastime was visiting their camp, The Mountains.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Lee Stipec, on Nov. 28, 2022. He was also preceded by his sister, Marie Rauschenberg.
He is survived by his children Matt (Rhonda) Stipec III of New Manchester, Tim (Kim) Stipec of Chester and Suzanne (Brandon) Hoppel of East Liverpool. There are seven grandchildren, Eric (Nikki) Stipec, Craig (Briana) Stipec, Matthew Stipec IV, Jacob (Taylor) Stipec, Megan (Luke McMaster) Stipec, Vince Hoppel and Nick Hoppel; as well as three great-grandchildren, Tucker, Lyra and Grant Stipec.
Father John Neiman will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship. The family welcomes everyone to celebrate his life with them.
