Longtime resident of Springfield, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on July 16, 2023 at the age of 86.
Mrs. Shinton was born October 19, 1936 in East Liverpool, Ohio. She was a 1954 graduate of East Liverpool High School where she enjoyed music, dance, cheerleading and sports.
Mrs. Shinton was the daughter of the late George and Sophia Markanton. She is preceded in death by Sister Roxanne Markanton and brothers Chris Markanton and Gus Markanton, Owner of Gus's Party Center. Mrs. Shinton leaves behind her devoted husband of more than 60 years, Mr. Ronald S. Shinton also of East Liverpool, Ohio. In addition, she is survived by Sister, Helen Markanton and Sisters-in-Law, Marcia Allison and Marion Markanton.
Mrs. Shinton was deeply devoted to her family. She cherished that her 3 children all lived within miles of their home in Springfield. She leaves behind Son, Jeff (Lori) and daughters Tina (Pete) and Kelly (Rob). Family events and holidays were also very special to Mrs. Shinton. She was known to spoil her 6 grandchildren, Alec, Thomas, Taryn, Jessica, Michael and Derek.
Mrs. Shinton was an active member of the St. John's United Methodist Church for 59 years. She was a member of the Woman's Group and was always ready to assist someone in need.
Friends are welcome on Monday, July 24 from 5-8 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. Interment and service will be private.
