Lawrence Hugh Madden III
1960-2023
It is with deep sadness the family announces the death of Lawrence Hugh Madden III. The patriarch of the family passed April 19 due to a motorcycle accident. Larry, as he was known to family and friends, was born March 1, 1960, in East Liverpool, Ohio to Lawrence H. Madden II and Stella A. Pickens. He was the eldest of five children.
Larry was an avid outdoors man with hunting, fishing, boating and camping being his favorite activities. His BBQ skills were unsurpassed, especially his brisket which was legendary in the family. He had the ability to find humor in most things and enjoyed a good laugh at the silliness in politics and the media. He is also known for being a respected River Boat Captain on the Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny rivers. He started as a deck hand in his mid-20s and was befriended by an elderly river boat pilot who taught him the old ways of the river. He was unique in that knowledge, blending it with the modern technology of today making him unreplaceable as a Captain. The local rivers were well known to Larry, and he was happiest when boating.
He is preceded in death by his father, sister, mother-in-law and mother. He is survived by this "smoken hot doe" Kay Madden; his stepchildren, a stepson Chris (Tiffany) Morrison of East Liverpool and two stepdaughters, Vanessa (Randy) Morrison and Jesica (Tom) Elkins of East Liverpool; seven step-grandchildren, Sierra, Randy Jr., Tommy Jr., Paige, Chris Jr., Jazlyn and Landon; three great-grandchildren, Alec, Kai and Aylah; sister Kathleen Madden; brother William Madden; sister Alice Madden; two nieces, Katie and Sammy; two nephews, Andrew and Mark; and Luka, his Italian Mastiff.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Nixon Funeral Home, Newell, W.Va.
