WELLSVILLE -- Fred Frost, age 85, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, in his home of 58 years, with his wife of nearly 60 years by his side.
Fred was born on May 24, 1937. He was the adopted son of Earl and Helen Frost and the biological son of Thelma and Lee Crook, Sr., all of Wellsville. Fred graduated in 1956 from Wellsville High School, where he and three teammates still hold a record in the 880 relay. A few days after graduation, he traveled to Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, SC, then on to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA, and-ultimately-Okinawa, Japan. During his tour of duty, he earned the rank of Corporal and an honorable discharge. He returned to Wellsville to work at Crucible Steel.
On June 29, 1963, he married Mary E. Pucci of Wellsville. He is survived by Mary and their three precious children, Frederick A. (Marjan) Frost, OD, of Zanesville, James M. Frost of East Palestine, and Pamela S. Frost (William) Gorder of Hilliard; grandchildren Shahrzad and Kian Frost; sister Greta Halfhill; brothers-in-law Arthur Pucci and Donald Pucci; plus many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary E. and Dominic Pucci, Sr.; brothers-in-law Virgil Halfhill, Dominic Pucci, Jr., and Ronald Pucci; sister-in-law Pia Pucci; nephews Dominic Pucci III and Jason Pucci; and great-niece Sarah Smalley.
An avid outdoorsman his whole life, Fred achieved a personal goal of traveling to Quebec, Canada and scoring a bull moose. The trophy is now in the possession of his son James, who continues Fred's legacy of hunting, shooting, and fishing.
As much as he was a skilled hunter, Fred strove to be the very best husband, father, and friend. He belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, and the Catholic mass and his belief in God were very important to him. To his wife, Mary, he will always be her Marine, and the love of her life. While she will miss him dearly, she is happy that he is now at peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
According to Fred's wishes, a private family service was held. The Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville is entrusted with his arrangements.
