EAST LIVERPOOL - Candace Kay Dunn Zaperach, of Calcutta, passed away Sunday evening, March 12, 2023, at the East Liverpool City Hospital. She was 76.
Born in East Liverpool, September 21, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Donald R. and Betty Jane Ammon Dunn. A resident of this area all her life, she was a member of the Beaver Local High School Class of 1964. She worked as a teacher's aide at Beaver Local and also worked as a nurse's aide at several area nursing homes. Candy served as a Calcutta Fire Department Auxiliary member for many years to honor her dad who was a CFD firefighter.
In her free time, Candy enjoyed sitting outdoors, bonfires, camping with her brother, Amish Country with her sisters, family picnics with all the nieces and nephews, lying by her sister's pool and rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was known for her big personality, which could only be matched by her generous heart. She was a pianist for many churches and read her Bible daily. Most recently, she was a member of the Tri-State Christian Church.
Candy was a beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. She married Paul Zaperach on September 17th, 1966, and together they are survived by three girls, Tami (David) Hall, of Lorain, Toni (Chad) Rogers, of Ridgeway, South Carolina, and Teri (Johnny) McComas of Calcutta. They raised their girls in Calcutta and attended various churches depending on Paul's ministry. She will also be remembered by her nine grandchildren: Eddie (Sonya), Brandee, Johnny (Sierra), Eriq, Garrett, Cole, Tatum, Lauren and Erin and her nine great-grandchildren: Bless, Daivon, Julian, Aubree, Brantley, Caleb, Ellie Anna, E.J. and Bennet.
She also leaves three sisters, Scherry (Gerald Wiseman) Smith of Calcutta, Elizabeth Jane Serago of Maryland, and Jaye Louise (Richard) Cochran of Rogers, as well as a brother, Richard A. (Debbie) Dunn of Calcutta, and a brother-in-law Charles Zaperach of Monaca and all of her nieces and nephews which she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her paternal grandparents, Ray and Maude Dunn, a sister Donna Bender, and a great-nephew, Michael K. Bender.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park at a later date.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
