Paul C. Blevins

EAST LIVERPOOL -- Former Wellsville Public Schools Superintendent Paul C. Blevins, 83, of Milbourne Avenue passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at East Liverpool City Hospital after taking ill suddenly at home.

Born March 21, 1939 in East Liverpool, Ohio, he was a son of the late Lantford "Slim" and Gertrude Moses Blevins. A lifetime area resident, Paul was a graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1957. He then went on to further his education and earn his Master's Degree in Education from Youngstown State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany.

He was retired from the Wellsville Public School System in 1998 where he served as the principal at the high school, principal at Garfield Elementary ( the greatest elementary school in the entire western world according to Paul ), then he became the School Superintendent. He was a former officer with the East Liverpool Police Department, and he also taught at Kent State University for 43 years. Paul began his career in education teaching at East Liverpool High School then served as vice principal at Beaver Local High School. During that time, Paul served as a Township Trustee for St. Clair Township for twelve years. He was member of the F&AM Masonic Lodge #681 for 60 years. He belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star Crystal Chapter #18 and the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce.

He leaves behind his wife, Ivona "Bonnie" Malcomb Blevins, whom he married March 25, 1963, at home. There is one daughter, Kim Blevins of East Liverpool; and two sons, J. Cragin Blevins and his wife, Ramona of Vienna, West Virginia and Jason Blevins and his wife, Laura Banfield Blevins of Olmsted Falls, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, Zackary, Abbi, Dallas, Dillon, Amber, Jared, Jonathan, Elisha and Joshua; and one great-grandson, Aiden.

He is also survived by one brother, John S. Blevins and his wife, Clare of Elyria, Ohio; two great-nephews, Kaden and Kaleb and many other nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Paul was also preceded in death by two sisters, T. Mae Wooley and Jeanette "Jean" Zirillo.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 2-4 and from 6-8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool, Ohio. Pastor Mark Blakeley will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Masonic Lodge will hold a service on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. An Eastern Star service will then follow.

Burial will be in Calcutta Cemetery.

Immediately following the service the family will gather at the Dawson Family Center.

The family requests contributions be made to a scholarship of your choice in the Wellsville School District in Paul's memory.
