John W. Minor

IRONDALE -- John W. Minor, 89, of Irondale passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at Salem Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 5, 1933, in New Somerset, Ohio, the son of the late Howard and Leveda (Springer) Minor. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death on Feb. 18, 2019, by his wife, Velma "Peg" (Morris) Minor, whom he married Dec. 5, 1950. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Minor; two sisters, Mary and Barbara; five brothers, Virgil, Bob, Ralph, Jerry and Floyd; and two grandchildren, Colleen and John Devon.

John was employed for 28 years as a chipper for the former Crucible Steel Mill. He was a member of the Ruritans, enjoyed farming and was an avid fisherman and coon hunter. He and his wife, Peg, owned Meca Fishing Camp at Mosquito Lake, and they enjoyed spending a lot of their time there together. Above all else, John loved the time he got to spend with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He attended Highlandtown United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Marjorie) Minor of Salineville and Tom (Carol) Minor of Wellsville, as well as five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren with another one on the way.                 

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, at Roberts Funeral Home with John's nephew, Minister Bob Minor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St., Wellsville.
