MIDLAND -- Marjorie Porter, of Midland Pennsylvania, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 10, 2022.
Marjorie Porter was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, on July 31, 1931, to Elder Norman H. VanLier and Mother Nellie Bell VanLier. She was the seventh of nine children born to that union. She grew up and was educated in Midland, Pennsylvania, where she often reminisced about her brothers and sisters. Ever the lover of family, Marjorie, and her siblings remained close throughout their lives, especially her and her five sisters, fondly known as the VanLier sisters.
Marjorie met Henry Joseph "Joe" Porter and they were married on January 26, 1957. They were blessed with three children. Marjorie earned her cosmetology license and worked as a hairdresser, and then in health care at East Liverpool City Hospital. She eventually was employed at and retired from Homer Laughlin China Company in Newell, W.Va.
In the last two years of her life, her health waned, so her family moved her to Illinois to live with her eldest daughter and husband. Throughout her life, Marjorie was known to be a sweet and kind woman who made friends wherever she went. She loved the Lord. She loved people, and people loved her.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her father and mother; her three brothers, Norman, Charles, and Thomas Jacob VanLier; her sisters, Sarah Smith, Peggy Hudson, Naomi Monteiro, and Lacueya Hastings; her husband Henry Joseph "Joe" Porter, Sr., and her granddaughter Keonna Larraine Cowart.
Marjorie leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Dr. Jeanne Porter King, and her husband, Dr. Carl E King, Sr; her son Henry Joseph "Joe" Porter, Jr., and his wife Tamara; her daughter Jocelyn Teresa Cowart and her husband Bruce Arthur; her last remaining sister Dorothy Crute and her husband Raymond; Grandchildren, Daniel Joseph Porter and wife Michelle, Channing Porter, Kristen, Kiara, and Kiandria Cowart, and Taylor Porter; a great-grandson Luke Joseph Porter and a great-granddaughter due in December/January; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, and a special grand dog, Princess.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held on Saturday September 24 with a family visiting hour at 10 a.m. and Celebration of Life starting at 11 a.m. at The Greater Faith Family Worship Center, 2033 Midland-Beaver Road, Industry, PA 15052.
