Alan “Bama” Murphy

WELLSVILLE -- Alan "Bama" Murphy, 71, of Wellsville, passed Thursday, June 30, 2022, at his residence, following a brief illness.

Born December 19, 1950, in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of the late Manley Taylor Murphy and Betty Sargent Higginbothan.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mike Murphy, stepbrother, Chris Higginbothan and by his stepson, TJ Kinsey.

Alan was a graduate of Corner High School in Alabama. He was employed as a union carpenter for Carpenters Local #435, for 27 years. Alan most recently worked at Glass Rock OMI Industrial as a Safety Consultant.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Negley and American Legion Post #736 in Glenmoor. Alan enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, golfing and cooking.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Melodea Rae Williams Murphy; daughter, Amy Tanner and her husband, David of Alabama; son, John "Bud" Murphy of South Carolina; brothers, Jeff and Steve Higginbothan of Alabama; sister, Carol Morgan of Alaska and grandchildren, Russ, Katie and Nate Tanner.

Friends may visit with Alan's family, Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Arner Funeral Chapel, from 2 – 6 PM. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
