EAST LIVERPOOL -- James Gordon Olmstead, 87, of Lighthouse Court passed away Tuesday, June 28th, 2022 at 9:45 a.m. at East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born March 10th, 1935, he was a son of the late William Olmstead and the late Evelyn Balser.
A lifelong area residaent and graduate of East Liverpool High School, he retired from the East Liverpool Water Department in 1999. At one time he worked at the former Crucible Steel Company in Midland, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the 1st Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Jim was a very kindhearted man who loved people, but most of all he truly loved his family. He got great pleasure out of spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up. He and his wife were proud Potter Alumni members and loved to watch Potter sports.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Crable Olmstead, whom he married July 14, 1957, at home. There are two daughters, Christie Yeager and her husband, H. Dallas of East Liverpool, Ohio and Anne Boley and her husband, Daniel of East Liverpool, Ohio; and one son, James G. Olmstead and his wife Tracy of Wellsville, Ohio.
He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Emily Skrypak and her husband, Karl, Jessica Miller and her husband, Derek, Lindsey Olmstead and her husband, Steve, Laura Boley, Marissa Steele and her husband, Jordan, Nathan Boley, Jamie Olmstead, Katie Boley, Sarah Boley and Matt Yeager and his wife, Rachel; twelve great-grandchildren and one sister, Cheryl Buchanan and her husband, Jim.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Olmstead and Donald Wayne Olmstead.
Friends may visit the family on Friday from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool, Ohio. Dr. Robert B. Sylvies will officiate a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery
The Tri-State Veteran's Burial Group will accord full military honors.
