Elsie M. Gates, 90, of Wellsville, Ohio, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, following a lengthy illness. Elsie was born in Irondale, Ohio on September 13, 1931, the daughter of the late Jerry and Blanche (Murray) Smith.
Elsie married Clarence "Jack" Gates on August 16, 1952 and spent 32 years with him until his death in 1988. She was employed as a Handliner at Sterling China in Wellsville for 42 years, until her retirement in 1996.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are: her daughter, Debra Jones, of Wellsville; and son, Jack Gates, of Irondale; four grandsons: Andy Jones, Matt Gates, Jason Jones, and Joshua Gates; and 10 great-grandchildren. Elsie is also survived by her sister, Nancy (John) Gerren, of Salineville.
Along with her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her son, John Gates, and 8 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 3 to 5 PM at the MacLean Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists on Riverside in Wellsville. The service will follow at 5 PM with Pastor Jerry Cunningham of Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church officiating. Elsie will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Wellsville.
