EAST LIVERPOOL -- Samuel W. Balmenti, of Calcutta, passed away Tuesday evening, November 2, 2021, at the Hospice House in Poland. He was 93.
Born in Chester, June 15, 1928, he was a son of the late Phillip and Artie Belle Neuch Balmenti
A member of the Chester High School Class of 1946, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where he was a radio operator in North Africa. He worked as a service supervisor at the former TK Roofing where he was employed for 40 years. Following his retirement, Sam was a Columbiana County school bus driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Kelly Balmenti, on August 27, 2014. The couple married May 1, 1965. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Adams, Josephine Andrews and Joanne Balmenti.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: two daughters, Marie Gatchel, and her husband Alan, of Salem, and Kelly Grafton (Mark Williamson) of Richmond, along with two sons, Philip Balmenti (Laurie Smith) of Rogers, and John Balmenti, and his wife Chris, of Negley. There are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by three sisters, Faye Stofko of Cleveland, Phyllis Bryan of Batesville, Indiana, and Mary Frances Simmons of Cape Coral, Florida.
Family and friends may visit Thursday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
