EAST LIVERPOOL - James R. "J.R." Walker, 64, of East Liverpool passed away Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at East Liverpool City Hospital with his family by his side.
J.R. was born in Youngstown, Ohio on June 13, 1957. He was a graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1975. J.R. retired from First Energy where he worked as an electrician at the Bruce Mansfield Plant. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church. J.R. was always in his element when he was on the basketball court playing, on the sidelines coaching or in the stands cheering. He was very passionate about basketball and loved coaching others with his tremendous knowledge and skills of the game. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Kentucky Wildcats fan.
Preceding J.R. in death were his father James Robert Walker Sr. and brother Michael J. "Mike" Walker.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, whom he married June 13, 1981, Tammy (Merriman) Walker; son Justin Walker and his wife Kendra of East Liverpool; daughter Brooke Walker of East Liverpool; seven grandchildren, Kenzie Walker, Kennedy Talbott, Chandler Talbott, Presley Walker, Carlee Rae Walker, Bailey Bowersock and Bristol Bowersock; mother Patricia (Hamilton) Walker of East Liverpool; brother Troy A. Walker and his wife Londa of East Liverpool; sister Lea Adkins of East Liverpool; sister-in-law Tina Walker of East Liverpool and many uncles, aunts cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Dave Willey will conduct a service on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
