NEWELL -- John Mehaffey, 65, of Newell, WV, went home to be with the LORD on Monday, August 16, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 5, 1956 in New Cumberland, WV, he was the son of the late John W. and Mary Virginia (Walker) Mehaffey.
He was a graduate of Oak Glen High School, class of 1974. John served the Church of the Nazarene in Colorado as associate pastor 1984-1987, in Illinois 1987-1995 and he was a retired pastor of the Congo Church of the Nazarene (1995-2004). He also worked for the West Virginia Northern Community College. He was an associate pastor and sound and visual technician for the New Cumberland Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Geer.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted and loving wife, Elaine (McConnell) Mehaffey of Newell, together 49 years and married 47 years; He was very proud of his children, a daughter, Julie (Mehaffey) Dickson of Dekalb, Illinois; two sons, John K. (Tamiki ) Mehaffey of Newell and Steven J. (Monica ) Mehaffey of Pittsburgh; John was proud to be called PAPA by seven grandchildren, Grace, John, and Jeff Dickson; Will and Emma Mehaffey and Nora and Elias Mehaffey;
Also surviving are two sisters, Edna and Paul LaNeve of North Carolina and Betty and Jim Smith of Chester; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
John was a true gentlemen and a faithful servant of the Lord. He was loved and will be missed.
Visitation will be Friday, August 20, 2021, from 5-8 p.m.,at the Nixon Funeral Home, Newell, WV.
A celebration of John's life will be held at the New Cumberland Church of the Nazarene at 11a.m .on Saturday, August 21. 2021. Interment will follow in Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester, WV.
