EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO - James A. Koenig, 81, of East Liverpool passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at East Liverpool City Hospital.
James was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on June 27, 1940 a son of the late William and S. Elizabeth (Smouse) Koenig. He was a US Army veteran proudly serving during the Vietnam War. James was a truck driver for Murray Trucking and retired from Transport America in 2005. He was a member of the Tri-State Lanes Men's Bowling League and East Liverpool ELKS # 258. James attended Wellsville First Christian Church. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his brothers playing cards and dominoes.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Jennifer Boggs and her husband Jonathan of Lisbon; two sons James Koenig and his wife Chrissy of Boardman and Michael Koenig of East Liverpool; four grandchildren Ryan Headley of Athens, TN, Melissa Headley and her wife Sarah of Calcutta, Mason Koenig of Boardman and Noah Koenig of Boardman; two brothers William "Bill" Koenig of Glenmoor and Henry L. "Hank" Koenig of Franklin, NC; lifelong friend, whom he considered to be a brother, Byron Surgeon of Guilford Lake; lifelong love P. Joan Stacey of East Liverpool and his favorite dog Benji.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Mark Blakeley of Wellsville First Christian Church will conduct a service at the Funeral Home on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery where the Tri State Veterans Burial Group will provide military honors.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses at East Liverpool City Hospital, especially Barb, Marsha and Dr. Singh, for the exceptional care they provided for James.
