Dr. Michael Charles Alpern

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Dr. Michael Charles Alpern, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla. passed away April 7, 2020. He was born Sept. 15, 1942 at Ft. Bragg, N.C. and grew up in East Liverpool. After graduating with honors from The Ohio State University with a Masters in Orthodontics, he practiced dentistry for several years with his father, Dr. Myer Alpern, and then moved to Port Charlotte to open his own orthodontic/research practice, which he ran with his wife, Ada Hinda, for over thirty years. During his tenure, he developed countless appliances, methodologies and technologies which advanced the field of orthodontics. He also changed the smiles of Charlotte County and beyond.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ada Hinda Alpern, his parents, Dr. Myer and Lilyan Alpern, his uncles, Nathan, Bennie and Charles and his aunts, Minnie and Elizabeth, and is survived by his brother, Attorney Jack Alpern of Warren, Ohio, his three children Blythe (Atlanta, Ga.), Mandi (Atlanta, Ga.) & Micah Myer (Chicago, Ill.), his son-in-law Mark, his daughter-in-law Cassidy, and his three grandchildren Berk, Ashlan, and Laudin.

Due to the current situation, funeral services will be held at a later day. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in Dr. Alpern’s memory to Temple Shalom. 23190 Utica Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33980, in support of the Adult Jewish Education program or the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
