Jude Mercer
Jude Mercer has been selected as Scholar of the Month for January at East Liverpool High School. Jude is the son of Suzanne and John Mercer. Jude ranks in the top 20% of his senior class with a GPA of 3.686, taking a combination of Advanced Placement and College Credit Plus courses. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and has received All-Academic Honors for soccer and tennis for the past four years. Jude is a member of the tennis and soccer teams, winning the OVAC Championship for soccer, and he is a member of the Outdoor Adventure Club, Booster Club, and Student Council, serving as Treasurer of the Class of 2021 for two years.
Jude serves his community through the Mercy Health Foundation and as a referee for the Beaver Youth Soccer Association.
Jude plans to study business at a university to be determined.
Gavin Whitman
Gavin Whitman was the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center's November Student of the Month. Gavin is a full-day senior from Wellsville High School and is enrolled in the Information Technology Academy (ITA) under the instruction of Mr. Bob Melczak.
Gavin is the SkillsUSA Information Technology Academy Class President. At Wellsville High School,Gavin is a member of the LeoClub, Robotics Team, Simple Acts of Kindness, and the Football and Track teams.
Gavin's future plans are to find an IT job directly out of high school while pursuing a degree in Computer Science. Gavin stated the CCCTC was a great choice for him because it gave him an opportunity to pursue his passion in IT and help him grow as an individual stating, "Having the option to pursue IT credentials during your high school years has been amazing. It has been a great choice for me, and I think it would be a great choice for many others."
Gavin was nominated by Mr. Bob Melczak who describes Gavin as an individual who is highly motivated, open to learning new things, and invested in seeing others around him be successful.Gavin is the son of LaDawn and JT Whitman.
Michael DeBord
The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award Program was established by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) to promote and recognize outstanding academic achievement. One senior from each county in Ohio receives this annual honor and Michael DeBord has been nominated as Beaver Local High School's Nominee.
Recipients demonstrate outstanding academic achievement as indicated by high school grades, test scores, and school activities and awards. Educational Service Centers that are multi-county agencies are to select one high school senior from each county in their service area. CCESC will host each school's nominee at the Heads Above the Rest presentation in April to announce the Columbiana County Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Scholarship Recipient. Congratulations Michael DeBord!
Leah Achberger
Leah Achberger was the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center's October Student of the Month. Leah is a half-day senior from Lisbon David Anderson High School and is enrolled in the Health Academy Program under the instruction of Mrs. Pamela Dawson.
Leah is a member of the SkillsUSA career-technical student organization where she holds the secretary position. Leah is also a member of the Drug Free Team, Knitting Club, and is the Captain of the Lisbon Varsity Cheer Team.
Leah is currently employed at Windsor Parkside Healthcare as an environmental aide until she earns her STNA License. Leah's future plans are to attend Kent State University to become a registered nurse with the hopes of becoming a traveling nurse before she eventually works in a hospital setting.
Leah stated, "The CCCTC was an amazing choice for me because it opened my eyes and showed me how much healthcare workers really do. It also helped me come out of my comfort zone and meet so many awesome friends."Leah was nominated by Mrs. Pamela Dawson who stated, "Leah is a very considerate, hardworking young lady. Her character shows through with her compassion for others, honesty, and trustworthiness. One of the things I admire most about Leah is her optimism. She has a way of making everyone's day a little brighter." Leah is the daughter of Troy and Denise Achberger.
Brooklyn Loveland
Brooklyn Loveland, 17, from New Cumberland, was selected as Oak Glen High School Lion's Club Scholar of the Month for December 2020.
She is the daughter of Terry and Jennifer Loveland.
Brooklyn is fifth in her class with a GPA of 4.1. Brooklyn is a four year letterman for the OGHS Girls' Soccer Team. She has been selected as all OVAC soccer player all four years and has been also selected as a first team All-State Player. Brooklyn was selected to play on the OVAC: WV All-Stars Girls' Soccer team in the fall of 2020. Brooklyn was a member of the OGHS Girls' Basketball team for three years.
Outside of school, Brooklyn has played soccer for multiple teams; currently she plays Cup Soccer for Beadling. She was a member of the Weirton Youth Rotary Leadership Committee her sophomore year. Currently at OGHS, Brooklyn is a member of the National Honor Society and the OGHS Prom Committee.
After graduation, Brooklyn plans to attend Waynesburg University in the fall to continue to play soccer and pursue a degree in nursing.
