Kalyndra Shafer

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville Lions Club has chosen Ms. Kalyndra Shafer as the Student of the Month for January 2020. She is the daughter of Debra Higgins and Robin Shafer of Hanoverton.

Kalyndra’s academic achievements include National Honor Society and A/B Honor Roll.

Her extracurricular activities including marching band where she is the feature twirler, Art Club, Y-Teens, Robotics, and a PAWS Mentor.

Kalyndra’s community involvement include Regional Special Olympics Ups for Downs Awareness Walk, and volunteer with at DIVA Donations Closet. She performs at many locations including festivals, parades, and nursing homes as well as making gift bags to for the residents at nursing homes. Kalyndra teaches beginner baton and dance for the Sassy Silks out of Hanoverton. She also helps organize “Twirlers Take the Lake” for Conneaut Lake Park. She has received awards across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia in dance, baton, and color guard solo and team. She won at the East Liverpool Pottery Festival Talent Show twice; once for dance and once for baton. Kalyndra was a winner at the Community Learning Center’s art and talent show in East Liverpool and has attended Kent State’s High School “Night to Twirl” as well as the KSU twirl clinic. She attended University of Akron High School night as a twirler and went to the YSU’s “Jam The Gym” night to play trumpet. Kalyndra has attended the Fred J. Miller Clinic at Walsh University for flag and baton and received multiple awards for attitude and leadership. She was the Waco Fireman’s Festival Queen, North Eastern Ohio Miss “Boo-tiful” for the Home Safe Domestic Abuse Shelter Charity Pageant, Greater Youngstown Italian Festival Queen, and was a princess on the Pottery Festival court.

Kalyndra plans to attend Kent State East Liverpool; her major is currently undecided.
