John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center Seniors and Completers Recognized at Awards Banquet

NEW CUMBERLAND --The John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center, a Model Simulated Workplace, honored graduating seniors and completers at a banquet held on May 8, 2019. This group included 78 students from Oak Glen High School and Weir High School and their families. Also in attendance were Mr. Dan Kaser and Mrs.Toni Hinerman from the Hancock County School Board, Deputy Assistant Superintendent Ms. Dawn Petrovich, former Career Center Director and former Superintendent of Hancock County Schools Ms. Suzan Smith, Attendance Director Mrs. Ruth Ann Douglass, Abuse, Neglect and Behavior Interventionist Ms. Mary Ann Petrelle, Director of Technology Mr. Steven McKinney, Mr. Kasey Arnott Education and Digital System Coordinator, Oak Glen Principal Mr. Dave Smith, Oak Glen Assistant Principal Denise Miller, Oak Glen Guidance Counselor Ms. Sherrie Garner, Oak Glen Dean of Students/Athletic Director Mr. Frank Crain, Weir High Principal Mrs. Kristen Bissett, and Weir High Assistant Pricipals Ms. Jeanne Pellegrino and Ms. Kelly Lawton.
The banquet began with a welcome from Mr. Dan Enich, Director of JDRCC and Secondary Curriculum Director of Hancock County. Mr. Gordon Anderson provided grace before the guest and staff dinner.
The first award for the evening was the Outstanding Achievement Award which is given to a student who has exceeded all the requirements of the program. Those recipients were: Auto Collision Technology, Cody Fisher; Automotive Technology, Luke Bailey; Carpentry, Elias Elo; Diesel Technology, Nathan Stierwalt; Electronics Technology, Nathan Davis; Graphic Design, Piper Adkins; Health Science Education, Sierra Lonkert; Health Science Education, Charly Gibson; ProStart Culinary, Breanna Petrella, and Welding Technology, Layne Crawford.
Outstanding Clinical Performance is awarded
Outstanding Clinical Performance is awarded to Health Science students who excelled during clinicals at Stone Pear Pavilion. 2019 recipients were Charly Gibson and Sierra Lonkert.
Students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. The NTHS honors student achievement and leadership in Career and Technical Education. The students inducted included: Shelby Beagle, Kiera Carson, Christian Evans, Joshua Fidler, Cody Fisher, Charly Gibson, Logan Gillespie, Kylee Haynes, Mackenzie Long, Sierra Lonkert, Kaitlyn Lucas, Jada McDole, Seana McNeely, Logan Meadows, Marc Osaba, Cameron Oulds, Hannah Patterson, Breanna Petrella, Kristina Pugh, Jazmin Swain, Cody Tate, Matthew Williams, and Hannah Walker.
WV Governor's Workforce Credential was created to ensure that West Virginia's developing workforce has industry ready skills to meet high quality business and industry expectations. The WV Governor's Workforce Credential allows employers to quickly identify those potential employees for high quality job openings. Ms. Karissa Poszywak, JDRCC Assistant Principal, recognized the following students with this achievement: Tyler Coble, Charly Gibson, Sierra Lonkert, Jada McDole, Seana McNeely, Logan Meadows, Breanna Petrella, and Hannah Walker.
Ms. Karissa Poszywak also presented Perfect Attendance Awards to students who had perfect attendance throughout the 2018-2019 school year. Those students receiving this recognition were Austin Meto, Zachary Nolder, Jasmine West, Cody Davis, Logan Gillespie, Layne Crawford, Konnor Kerr, Cameron Oulds, and Matthew Williams.
Certificates were given to seniors for the number of hours each student accrued during their time in the JDRCC simulated workplace. Students receiving certificates included:

Several scholarships were given during the banquet. Betsy Wells and Joyce Young from the Northern Panhandle Lions Club were in attendance to grant this year's Lions Club Scholarship. The Lions Club generously provides a scholarship annually to a deserving JDRCC student whose home high school is Oak Glen. This year's recipient of the Lions Club Scholarship was Layne Crawford. The Orchards of Foxcrest Scholarship awards a scholarship to a student who is continuing his or her education in the health care field and who is currently employed at their facility. Maria Boyd, Human Resources Assistant from The Orchards, presented this scholarship to Jada McDole. The Serra Village/ WGC Foundation Scholarship was also created for a student continuing his or her education and employed at their facility. This year the scholarship was awarded to Sierra Lonkert.
At the conclusion of the evening, Mr. Dan Enich presented the esteemed Director's Award. The recipient of this award is chosen from those students who were awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award. The student receiving the Director's Award is an exemplary student who strives for excellence both at their home school and in the simulated workplace environment. The Director's Award for 2019 was presented to Layne Crawford.
