SALINEVILLE -- Alex August has been named the Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month for February at Southern Local High School.
August, the son of Dominique and J.C. Hayes of Salineville and Baron L.D. August of Aliquippa, Pa., ranks second with a 4.246 grade point average and is the class salutatorian. He is a four-year participant on the school honor roll and perfect attendance list and has attended Kent State-Salem for the past three years as part of the College Credit Plus program.
In addition, he has been active in athletics and was a varsity letterman in cross country and wrestling during his freshman year; gained his second varsity letter in wrestling and was a first-ever district qualifier and an Indian Award recipient in his sophomore year; was a third-year letterman in wrestling and a district qualifier during his junior year; and currently holds his fourth varsity letter as a grappler.
August has also participated in Project Moore Mentoring for a number of years outside of school and works as a server at the Riverside Roadhouse in Wellsville. He plans to attend the University of Akron this fall to major in pre-med and then the North East Ohio Medical School to become an orthopedic surgeon.
