Highway Patrol
-- Lawrence E. Messenger, 60, Sanford Street, East Liverpool, was cited for assured clear distance after his southbound vehicle on U.S. Route 30 struck the rear of another southbound vehicle driven by Wayne C. Duris, 43, state Route 45, Lisbon, crossing the center line and off of the left side of the road, striking an embankment, some trees and then entered a pond at 3:54 p.m. Aug. 3 in Elkrun Township. Messenger and his passenger, Hayden W. Wilson, 26, County Airport Road, East Liverpool, both suffered suspected minor injuries, with Wilson transported by West Point to Salem Regional Medical Center.
-- Cherrie L. Bailey, 69, state Route 517, Lisbon, was cited for reasonable control after her northbound vehicle went off the right side of Lisbon Road in Center Township at 1:05 p.m. Aug. 2 and struck a traffic sign and portable traffic signal and arm.
-- Eric H. Madden, 63, Fairfield School Road, Columbiana, was cited for reasonable control, operating a vehicle impaired and driving while texting after his southbound vehicle traveled off of the right side of Fairfield School Road and struck a bridge at 9:18 p.m. Aug. 1 in Fairfield Township. After the crash, he opened the driver's side door and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Leonard G. Magill, 86, Bell Road, Lisbon at 9:23 p.m. Aug. 1. Magill wasn't injured and no citation was issued. Madden was treated at the scene by Columbiana EMT for suspected minor injuries.
-- Monte L. Hoff, 73, West Southern Avenue, Columbiana, suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken by Columbiana EMT to Mercy Health Youngstown and his passenger, Sara Rickman, 43, Southeast Boulevard, Salem, suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken by Leetonia to Salem Regional Medical Center after the brakes in his vehicle failed while traveling downhill and into a curve at 2:12 p.m. Aug. 1 while eastbound on Butcher Road, Salem Township. His vehicle went off the road and struck a ditch.
-- Brian Trucksis, 39, Cream Ridge Road, Lisbon, escaped injury after his southbound vehicle on state Route 7 struck three deer that ran into the road, then he pulled his vehicle off of the road and it caught fire at 4:38 a.m. Aug. 1 in Elkrun Township. There was no citation.
-- Colton Lynn, 18, St. Jacob Logtown Road, Leetonia, was cited for reasonable control after falling asleep behind the wheel, with his eastbound vehicle going off the right side of the road, striking a log and trees before coming to rest at 2:55 p.m. July 31 in Hanover Township. He wasn't injured.
-- A 16-year-old Beloit teen was cited for left of center after his eastbound truck crossed the center line on the state Route 45 bypass in Perry Township at 8:27 a.m. July 28 and struck a truck head-on driven by Susan Yoho, 57, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem. Both drivers suffered suspected serious injuries and were transported by EMT EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital.
-- Rhiley M. Scheider, 25, Strongsville, was transported by Stat MedEvac to St. Elizabeth Hospital with suspected serious injuries after her southbound vehicle crossed the center line and drove off the left side of state Route 164 in Center Township at 9:14 p.m. July 26 and struck an embankment. Scheider was cited for OVI, reasonable control and no seat belt.
-- Lee William Wyant, 50, Eagleton Road, Lisbon, was cited for OVI, reasonable control and no seat belt after his southbound vehicle swerved to miss three deer in the road on state Route 7 in Elkrun Township at 6:52 p.m. July 26, crossed the center line, struck a ditch and overturned. Wyant suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Health in Youngstown by North Star.
Salem
-- A possible theft was reported in the 300 block of East Sixth Street at 10:03 a.m. Sunday for a possible theft. The caller advised that a man had stolen their cell phone and gone through their belongings. Officers gave the woman a statement form to fill out and further investigation is pending.
-- A person to be removed was reported in the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 2:42 a.m. Sunday. The caller advised that their ex had returned to their residence unannounced after being moved out for over a week. Officers spoke with both parties and the ex agreed to leave for the night with a friend. Officers advised both to work out a better time for the ex to get their remaining belongings from the residence.
-- Officers assisted the Perry Township Police Department with a car versus house accident in the 1200 block of Highland Avenue at 1:34 a.m. Sunday. Officers found that a vehicle had left the roadway, struck and sheered a telephone pole and continued through a yard before crashing into a house and severing a gas line. The driver was out of the vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated, and the Perry Township Fire Department and EMT responded to the scene with Ohio Edison and Columbia Gas. The driver was transported to the hospital for treatment. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
-- A person with a gun walking toward the railroad tracks with an infant was reported in the 900 block of Newgarden Avenue at 12:37 a.m. Sunday. Officers took the baby from the man and detained him. Officers were advised that the man and the caller had been in a dispute over their relationship when the man held a gun to his head and told the caller that they were going to watch. The fire department and EMT responded and the man was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Further information was obtained and the matter will be sent to the prosecutor's office for review.
-- A possible fire was reported in the 400 block of West Sixth Street at 3:04 p.m. Saturday at 3 p.m. Saturday. Officers found that the fire had already been extinguished, and no assistance was needed.
--A dispute over personal issues was reported in the 600 block of Woodland Avenue at 12:20 p.m. Saturday. The male half had departed prior to officers' arrival and the female half advised that the dispute had been verbal only.
-- A fight was reported in the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 1:04 a.m. Saturday. The caller advised that the bartender had been having issues with a patron at last call and that the patron had caused a small altercation, resulting in them leaving the establishment. The owners of the business requested they be trespassed from the business and officers advised them not to return to the business or they could face charges.
-- A domestic dispute was reported in the 500 block of Walnut Street at 10:52 p.m. Friday. Officers were advised that both parties were arguing over housing issues while intoxicated, and both parties were separated. They agreed to stay in their own sections of the home for the rest of the night.
-- Officers checked on a potentially suicidal person in the 1200 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 10:15 p.m. Friday. Officers spoke with a relative of the person in question who advised that they had taken several pills. The fire department and EMS were contacted, and the person was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
-- A man was reported yelling at people with a potato in his hand in the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and East Fourth Street at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Officers spoke with the man and confirmed that everything was okay.
