Highway Patrol

-- Lawrence E. Messenger, 60, Sanford Street, East Liverpool, was cited for assured clear distance after his southbound vehicle on U.S. Route 30 struck the rear of another southbound vehicle driven by Wayne C. Duris, 43, state Route 45, Lisbon, crossing the center line and off of the left side of the road, striking an embankment, some trees and then entered a pond at 3:54 p.m. Aug. 3 in Elkrun Township. Messenger and his passenger, Hayden W. Wilson, 26, County Airport Road, East Liverpool, both suffered suspected minor injuries, with Wilson transported by West Point to Salem Regional Medical Center.

-- Cherrie L. Bailey, 69, state Route 517, Lisbon, was cited for reasonable control after her northbound vehicle went off the right side of Lisbon Road in Center Township at 1:05 p.m. Aug. 2 and struck a traffic sign and portable traffic signal and arm.

-- Eric H. Madden, 63, Fairfield School Road, Columbiana, was cited for reasonable control, operating a vehicle impaired and driving while texting after his southbound vehicle traveled off of the right side of Fairfield School Road and struck a bridge at 9:18 p.m. Aug. 1 in Fairfield Township. After the crash, he opened the driver's side door and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Leonard G. Magill, 86, Bell Road, Lisbon at 9:23 p.m. Aug. 1. Magill wasn't injured and no citation was issued. Madden was treated at the scene by Columbiana EMT for suspected minor injuries.

-- Monte L. Hoff, 73, West Southern Avenue, Columbiana, suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken by Columbiana EMT to Mercy Health Youngstown and his passenger, Sara Rickman, 43, Southeast Boulevard, Salem, suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken by Leetonia to Salem Regional Medical Center after the brakes in his vehicle failed while traveling downhill and into a curve at 2:12 p.m. Aug. 1 while eastbound on Butcher Road, Salem Township. His vehicle went off the road and struck a ditch.

-- Brian Trucksis, 39, Cream Ridge Road, Lisbon, escaped injury after his southbound vehicle on state Route 7 struck three deer that ran into the road, then he pulled his vehicle off of the road and it caught fire at 4:38 a.m. Aug. 1 in Elkrun Township. There was no citation.

-- Colton Lynn, 18, St. Jacob Logtown Road, Leetonia, was cited for reasonable control after falling asleep behind the wheel, with his eastbound vehicle going off the right side of the road, striking a log and trees before coming to rest at 2:55 p.m. July 31 in Hanover Township. He wasn't injured.

-- A 16-year-old Beloit teen was cited for left of center after his eastbound truck crossed the center line on the state Route 45 bypass in Perry Township at 8:27 a.m. July 28 and struck a truck head-on driven by Susan Yoho, 57, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem. Both drivers suffered suspected serious injuries and were transported by EMT EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

-- Rhiley M. Scheider, 25, Strongsville, was transported by Stat MedEvac to St. Elizabeth Hospital with suspected serious injuries after her southbound vehicle crossed the center line and drove off the left side of state Route 164 in Center Township at 9:14 p.m. July 26 and struck an embankment. Scheider was cited for OVI, reasonable control and no seat belt.

-- Lee William Wyant, 50, Eagleton Road, Lisbon, was cited for OVI, reasonable control and no seat belt after his southbound vehicle swerved to miss three deer in the road on state Route 7 in Elkrun Township at 6:52 p.m. July 26, crossed the center line, struck a ditch and overturned. Wyant suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Health in Youngstown by North Star.
