Sheriff’s Office
— Deputies were called at 1:48 a.m. June 16 to the Southfield Energy Plant on Hibbetts Mill Road, Wellsville for suspicious activity. The plant supervisor reported a man and woman came to the gate and said they were out of gas down the road and did not have a phone. Employees gave them water and allowed them to leave the gate, sometime later the woman came back and reported the man had cut himself and was bleeding. Deputies found them walking and were told it was a misunderstanding, with the man attempting to open a can of food with his knife and the contents, including tomato sauce, spilling on his clothing. Both were cleared of any warrants and the car had been borrowed from a woman from Mansfield, who the man said gave permission. The plant provided a small amount of gas to the couple and they were allowed to leave. Later in the morning, the owner of the vehicle said the man had permission to use it but was supposed to return it and had not. Deputies checked the area for the couple but didn’t find them.
