Court News
LISBON — An East Palestine man accused of assaulting a woman last year was ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center.
Stephen W. Jones, 36, East Market Street, appeared for sentencing this week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for domestic violence, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor endangering children. Besides serving time at the EOCC, which is a community based facility, he was placed under community control for four years and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
A charge of strangulation was dismissed.
Jones was accused of assaulting a woman after an argument on Nov. 13, 2024 in East Palestine. A police affidavit said Jones smashed a wooden dining room chair and punched out the glass window of the microwave and struck the woman in the back with a large piece of broken dining room chair. She went upstairs and was holding a child when he grabbed her by the throat with both hands and choked her.
