COLUMBIANA COUNTY COURT NEWS
LISBON -- Ryan Hoschar, 25, last known address Boston Street, Washingtonville, pleaded guilty in Common Pleas Court to trespassing in a habitation to violate a protection order, a third-degree felony amended from a second-degree felony burglary; endangering children, a misdemeanor charge; possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony; and two counts of violating a protection order, each a third-degree felony. Additional charges of possessing drug abuse instruments, obstructing official business, illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated possession of drugs will be dismissed at the time of sentencing, when Hoschar faces up to 13 and a half years. During the hearing, Hoschar and his defense attorney Chris Amato requested a possible reduction in bond after Hoschar has begun substance abuse counseling at the county jail. Judge Megan Bickerton denied the reduction in bond, noting the last time Hoschar was in court he had been using heroin and may have been dead from an overdose if he had not been taken into custody. She urged him to continue with his counseling. Sentencing is set for June 6.
Paul J. Kern Jr., 42, Center Street, East Palestine, pleaded guilty to permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony; aggravated trafficking in drugs, a second-degree felony; aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; and aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony. Kern faces up to 18 years in prison, a $32,500 fine and five-year license suspension. Sentencing is set for June 17. On Dec. 24, 2020, Kern was allowing others to use his home for drug-use, had a large amount of methamphetamines for sale, as well as possession of morphine and diazepam. Then on Aug. 20, 2020, Kern again had more than the bulk amount of methamphetamines.
Neil P. Barber, 46, Main Street, Leetonia, was placed on three years community control for aggravated possession of drugs. The charge was for having methamphetamines on Oct. 4, 2020.
Jayden M. Robbins, 23, Cincinnati, stipulated to violating the terms of his community control from a prior possession of cocaine conviction. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail with credit for 62 days already served. The charge was for having cocaine on Feb. 23, 2019.
Michelle A. Brown, 46, Erie Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, each a fifth-degree felony. She was placed on three years community control. On Sept. 13, 2020, Brown had methamphetamines and oxycodone.
Mark Coleman, 54, Y and O Road, East Liverpool, stipulated to violating the terms of his intervention treatment plan and was sentenced to serve 14 days in jail. The treatment plan was unsuccessfully terminated and he was placed on community control for the prior convictions of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; possession of cocaine, a fourth-degree felony; and aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. The charges were for an accessible, loaded firearm, methamphetamines and at least five grams of cocaine in the vehicle with him on Jan. 16, 2021.ard Smith, 59, Garfield Avenue, Alliance, was served a secret indictment charging him with aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly having oxycodone on Oct. 19, 2020. The indictment was issued by the grand jury in June.
EAST LIVERPOOL MUNICIPAL
EAST LIVERPOOL -- In East Liverpool Municipal Court, Dennis R. Byers, 36, Chester Avenue, Wellsville, was bound over to the grand jury on a felony charge of weapons while under disability and a no license citation. His bond is set at $10,000 cash surety. Byers allegedly had a book bag full of suspected narcotics and a firearm in the center console on Monday.
Brendan D. Buger, St. Clair Avenue, was fined $150, sentenced to a day in jail and required 40 hours community service for disorderly conduct amended from domestic violence for punching a cabinet in the laundry room while yelling at Amy Sigley, threatening to throw her daughter across the room and then pushed Sigley.
Shannon R. Herron, 45, Etruria Street, was fined $600, credited with nine days served and sentenced to an additional day in jail for theft, criminal trespassing, driving under suspension, drug abuse instrument and drug paraphernalia. Herron had suspected narcotics, digital scales and hypodermic needles. On Aug. 31, 2020, she purposely failed to scan 41 items totaling $67 at the Calcutta Walmart, when she was banned from the store.
David G. Warrick, 61, Echo Dell Road, was fined $325, credited with 28 days already served and required 20 hours community service for driving under suspension, improper registration and domestic violence. Warrick allegedly cut his girlfriend, Florence Delbridge above the left eye by kicking the door open causing it to strike her in the face on Dec. 17.
Zachry Edward Perry, 27, Cadmus Street, was fined $250, sentenced to a day in jail and required 20 hours community service for theft for walking out of Giant Eagle with two 16-ounce Monster Energy drinks and a pack of Marlboro menthol black 100s.
Christopher D. Craft, 28, Mill Street, Rogers, was fined $180 for no license and marked lanes.
Santee A. Baumgarner, 24, McCormick Run Road, Salineville, was fined $150 for driving under FRA suspension.
Jason A. Kane, 19, West Ninth Street, was fined $60 for expired plate and unsafe vehicle.
Tina L. Smith, 46, Lincoln Avenue, was fined $40 for speeding.
A May 26 pretrial was set for Marlena L. James, 19, Y and O Road, cited with fictitious plates.
An April 19 trial was set for Hollie L. Polen, 41, Weirton, W.Va., cited with speeding.
An April 14 pretrial was set for Johnathan T. Diegdio, 19, Louise Avenue, charged with assault for allegedly punching Robert Lyons in the side of the face on Jan. 7, 2021.
An April 14 pretrial was set for Marques Kimmie, 26, Cleveland Heights, cited with possession of marijuana.
The following failed to appear: Diana Winan, 34, Parkview Drive, speeding; Crystal Bailey, 28, 12th Street, Wellsville, expired plate; Brandon S. Myers, 47, Newell, W.Va., driving under FRA suspension; Darren Heller, 41, Bridgeport, speeding; Cassidie Edwards, 37, St. Clair Avenue, speeding; and Robin Stoot, 36, Youngstown, no license.
COLUMBIANA COUNTY MUNICIPAL
LISBON -- In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing was set April 14 for JonTay Johnson, 27, Franklin Avenue, Salem, charged with a third-degree felony for domestic violence for an incident April 5 in Salem. A pretrial was also set April 14 for obstructing official business. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Police had been called to the Franklin Avenue residence where the female victim alleged she was choked and her head was pushed into a wall, causing bruising. When police went to talk to Johnson, he allegedly fled on foot and failed to listen to commands to stop, and was located several blocks away and placed in custody.
George Faulkner Jr., 35, state Route 14, East Palestine, waived a preliminary hearing and had his case bound over to the grand jury for receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly being seen March 28 driving a Jeep stolen from Boardman.
Brandon Gust, 23, Newgarden Avenue, Salem, was ordered to serve 60 days in jail for numerous cases, including violating his probation for charges of obstructing official business and disorderly conduct from a 2021 case when he ran from police on Prospect Street in Salem. He was also fined $850 for charges of no temporary permit, traffic control devices, operating a vehicle under the influence 2nd offense, temporary permit required and obstruction of justice, amended from tampering with evidence. His license was suspended for two years.
A pretrial was set April 11 for Kelly Reed, 32, Sunset Drive, Wellsville, charged with assault for allegedly assaulting a man in the lower back area with a yellow garden took possibly a till on March 30 on Sunset Drive, Wellsville. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety and she was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.
Tyler Cowan, 32, St. Clair Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $750, received a suspended jail term and was ordered to complete 40 hours community service for engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools. The charges stemmed from him answering an ad on a known escort website and requesting sexual acts in exchange for $180 from a Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force agent posing as a female. He showed up at a prearranged meeting spot on Feb. 27 in East Palestine with a phone and a drug for the female to snort.
A pretrial was set April 14 for Tiffany Bolen, 40, Youngstown, charged with possession of a drug abuse instrument, possessing criminal tools and soliciting, with bond set at $5,000 cash or surety. An agent with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force responded to a posted ad on a known escort website for a female named Tiffany Bolen, arranging for a meeting in Salem on April 6 for sexual conduct in exchange for $220. Bolen allegedly had a hypodermic needle in her possession along with a cell phone to arrange the meeting.
A pretrial was set May 26 for Bradley Carpenter, 37, Lordstown, charged with resisting arrest for allegedly taking off running across a parking lot and through the woods when a deputy attempted to take him into custody on June 10, 2019 on a warrant.
Qamirr Woodley, Inez Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $250 for disorderly conduct amended from menacing. Another disorderly conduct charge was dismissed. He was also ordered to complete 10 hours of community service. The charges stemmed from Woodley entering Daw Middle School in Wellsville on Nov. 1 demanding to see the principal while a teacher and the school resource officer were in the office, yelling at everyone and refusing to calm down. He also made a threat to go find teachers and students allegedly bullying another student to deal with them.
A pretrial was set May 31 for Richard Davison Jr., 37, Newgarden Avenue, Salem, charged with obstruction of official business and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly jumping out of a vehicle as a deputy approached, being ordered back inside and possessing a baggie containing residue from a brown substance on April 10, 2020.
Justin Echols, 44, last known address Dakota Street, East Liverpool, waived a preliminary hearing and was bound over to the grand jury for failure to verify change of address for allegedly failing to report on March 1 that his home on Dakota Street had been condemned.
Scott Braidic, 46, Sebring, was fined $1,025, ordered to spend 10 days in jail and to complete 40 hours community service for operating a vehicle under the influence 2nd offense and speeding. His license was suspended for two years, with driving privileges granted.
Scott Powell Jr., 41, Darlington, Pa., was fined $1,100 for driving under suspension, failure to control, failure to stop after an accident and obstructing official business, with a citation for no seat belt dismissed. His probation for an previous endangering children charge was terminated and he was ordered to serve 45 days in jail at the same time as a 22-day sentence for the traffic charges.
Thomas Rankin, 62, St. Jacob-Logtown Road, Leetonia, was fined $1,350, ordered to spend 30 days in jail and ordered to complete 40 hours community service for operating a vehicle under the influence, amended from a 3rd offense to a 2nd offense, and speeding. His license was suspended for three years with driving privileges granted.
Alex Fluharty, 31, Center Street, Leetonia, was fined $150 for possession of drugs for possessing marijuana on Dec. 21. A charge of possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia was dismissed.
Mariela Gomez, 23, East Third Street, Salem, was fined $1,225, sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 87 days suspended and credit for three days for a driving program and ordered to complete 30 hours community service for failure to stop after an accident, material on roadway, failure to control, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia. Her license was suspended for 180 days.
Brian Wilson, 35, U.S. Route 30, Hanoverton, was fined $975, sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 87 days suspended and credit for three days for a driving program, and ordered to complete 20 hours community service for OVI and marked lanes. His license was suspended for a year, with driving privileges granted.
A pretrial was set June 9 for Brandon Thomas, 36, Salem Grange Road, Salem, charged with OVI 2nd offense, OVI refusal with prior within 20 years, driving under suspension and speeding.
Steven Kirkpatrick, 39, Steubenville, was fined $280 for driving under suspension and no seat belt.
Ali Damico Muhammad Jr., 27, Youngstown, was fined $150 for driving under suspension.
William Stull, 29, Vale Street, Salineville, was fined $150 for speeding.
Jamie Swanson, 42, U.S. Route 30, Lisbon, was fined $150 for an equipment violation amended from speeding.
Richard Davison, 37, Clarks Mill Road, Salineville, was fined $150 for driving under suspension.
Anton Trarick, 42, Canton, was fined $300 for driving under suspension.
