LISBON -- A Salem man was sentenced to prison for breaking into a Wellsville garage last year and stealing several items.
William D. Barrett Jr., 39, of East Fifth Street, was sentenced by county Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam to 12 months in a state prison after previously pleading guilty to burglary, breaking and entering and receiving stolen property.
The crimes occurred on Aug. 15, 2019, when Barrett was staying in a room at a home on Maple Avenue in Wellsville, next door to Kay Montgomery. Police received a call that a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt was just seen removing something from Montgomery's garage.
When the officer arrived he asked Penny Cox, who owned the house where Barrett was staying, and she gave him permission to search her property. Police found stolen items in Barrett's room as well as the garage, including a Mongoose bicycle, Xbox game system and air compressor.
Barrett received 15 days mandatory credit for time spent in the county jail.
