Brandon M. Byers, 25, Oakwood Street, East Liverpool, stipulated in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to violating the terms of his intervention plan for a possession of drugs charge he pleaded guilty to on Jan. 11, 2018. The plan was terminated, and he was placed on community control, which will include up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center. Byers was in possession of .156 grams of crack cocaine in his shoe on Nov. 26, 2016.
Andrew H. Hunley, 42, Independence Square, Wellsville, was sentenced to eight months in prison for possession of drugs for a folded paper containing heroin in the center console of the automobile he was operating on July 9, 2016. He was credited with 24 days served.
A trafficking in drugs indictment against Frank J. Flaherty Jr., 43, Birch Street, East Liverpool, was dismissed after a motion was filed by the prosecutor’s office following Flaherty’s death in late May.
Mariah P. McClellan, 27, Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to four years in prison for tampering with evidence and two counts of possession of drugs, one with a forfeiture specification. She was credited with 292 days already served. The charges state McClellan had cocaine on July 19, 2016; and concealed white powder on her person on Aug. 7, 2017 when she was found to have 48.7 grams of cocaine under her pillow and $1,829 in her purse.
DeJoure C. Hawkins, 18, South Street, Alliance, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary. He faces up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Sentencing is set for Aug. 30. A criminal trespassing charge will be dismissed at the time of sentencing as a part of the plea agreement. In the early morning hours of March 13, Hawkins opened the kitchen window of the home of Nicholas and Katherine Tubbs in the attempt to gain entry and he was later found hiding in the nearby garage of Quinten Fortner.
Brenda S. McKinney, 53, Hess Road, East Liverpool, was placed on a four-year intervention in lieu of conviction treatment plan for a charge of possession of drugs for seven hydrocodone tablets found in her purse on Jan. 2, 2016.
James R. Lewis, 47, Dairy Lane, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for having cocaine on July 10, 2017, and was sentenced to eight months in prison consecutive to the prison sentence imposed in earlier case. He had been sentenced to a year in prison in October for failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and resisting arrest.
Jeffrey D. Coleman’s motion to set aside the bench warrant against him and release him from the county jail was denied. Coleman, 54, Leslie Road, Lisbon, was ordered transported to the Lorain Correctional Institution to begin serving a nine-month prison sentence ordered on Jan. 4, 2013. Coleman’s sentence for OVI initially had been placed on hold pending a ruling by the Seventh District Court of Appeals.
