Columbiana County Common Pleas

Rusty R. Altman, 42, Cream Ridge Road, Lisbon, pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to possession of drugs and permitting drug abuse. He faces up to two years in prison, a five-year license suspension and a $5,000 fine. Sentencing is set for June 8.

Altman allowed Tremaine Jackson to use his home in the commission of a drug-related offense on Nov. 13. Then on Nov. 15, Altman was found with less than five grams of cocaine. Jackson of Cleveland is currently facing charges of illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility, tampering with evidence, possession of drugs and four counts of trafficking in drugs.

Columbiana County Common Pleas

Hugh A. Miller, 24, Alderlick Road, pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas to aggravated vehicular assault and OVI. Miller faces up to six years in prison, a $3,250 fine and a five-year license suspension. Sentencing is set for May 21.

Miller was driving a 1998 Ford Escort westbound on Alderlick Road east of Steubenville Pike at about 3 a.m. July 6, 2013 when he lost control. He left the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned, struck a fence post and tree before coming to rest on the fence post. His passenger, Alexander Gromley, was severely injured, including a closed skull fracture with intracranial hemorrhage, brain contusion and injuries to the spinal cord, kidney and spleen. Miller reportedly had a BAC of .197.

Tracey L. Shields, 41, Sprucevale Road, East Liverpool, was placed on a four-year intervention in lieu of conviction plan after pleading guilty to possession of drugs. On Nov. 16, 2013 Shields had a crack pipe containing a trace amount of cocaine.

Columbiana County Common Pleas

Cory S. Witherow, 28, Steubenville Pike, Lisbon, was sentenced to two years in prison for robbery. Witherow grabbed a money bag from Kristen Stockman while she was walking to Huntington Bank in Lisbon to make a deposit for Sandy Beaver Insurance on Sept. 3. He had pleaded guilty to he charge in January.

Thomas F. Pflueger, 58, Abbeville, S.C., was granted intervention in lieu of conviction. He pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and five counts of theft. He was placed on four years probation. Pflueger was charged after he stole drugs while employed at the Rite Aid Pharmacy mostly in April 2014. He took 48 hydrocodone tablets on April 24, nine oxycodone on April 17 and an unknown number of hydrocodone tablets from a stock bottle on April 19 and 23. The final charge was for taking both oxycodone and hydrocodone during the time period beginning in December 2013 through April 15.

Sheena R. Rhodes, 29, Moore Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for heroin she had on May 4, 2012. She was placed on four years probation and had her license suspended for six months.

A domestic violence charge was dismissed against Joshua J. Sekerak, 38, Sleepy Hollow, Leetonia, after the grand jury returned a no bill of indictment. He had been accused of punching his stepson in the face on Jan. 26.

Joshua J. Hoover, 29, Brown Street, Lisbon, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and was placed on a four-year treatment plan. Hoover had two spoons with heroin residue on April 21.

Teresa M. Sauerwein, 54, last known address South Main Street, Columbiana, pleaded guilty to misuse of a credit card for accessing the checking account of Willis Barnhart, 78, utilizing his ATM card on three occasions in March 2014 without his permission, taking $600. She was credited with one day served and placed on two years probation. She also was ordered to pay Barnhart $500 in restitution.

Jason E. Tice, 37, East Eighth Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to three years of intervention in lieu of conviction with up to the first six months to be served at the Eastern Ohio Correctional Center. Tice pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of drugs for having heroin, cocaine, 26 orange sublingual films containing buprenorphine and alprazolam tablets on May 8, 2014 at a West Ninth Street, East Liverpool, home. He also pleaded guilty to an additional three counts of possession of drugs for 38 wax paper bags of heroin, cocaine and buprenorphine on Aug., 6, 2014.

Michelle V. Bennett, 24, last known address Sunset Drive, Lisbon, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs with a forfeiture specification. Bennett had less than a gram of heroin and $691 intended for drug-related offenses. She was placed on a four-year intervention plan.

Corey A. Snay, 20, Chestnut Street, Leetonia, pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking in drugs and was granted intervention in lieu of conviction. Snay was placed on a four-year intervention program. He had sold .47 grams and .82 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in the spring of 2014.

Columbiana County Common Pleas

One of two men charged in connection with thefts from a Columbiana electrical substation, Gerald A. Dipanfilo, was placed on four-years probation by Judge C. Ashley Pike in Common Pleas Court on Monday.

Dipanfilo, 62, East State Street, Salem, pleaded guilty in February to breaking and entering, vandalism, possession of drugs and driving under suspension.

Vance Gray, 52, Densmore Avenue, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon for having a .22-caliber revolver in the center console of his vehicle on Sept. 27, 2013, after he was previously convicted of carrying a concealed weapon in 2007. He faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine. Sentencing was set for May 28.

Gerald E. Beiling Jr., 55, Salem-Alliance Road, Damascus, was found in violation of his probation for three counts of trafficking in drugs for marijuana sold to confidential informants in August 2008. He was sentenced to six months in prison and his probation was dishonorably terminated.

He faces up to 13 years in prison, a $25,000 fine and a five-year driver’s license suspension. Sentencing was set for June 4.

LISBON – Two people with multiple OVI convictions were sentenced this week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

Denise L. Brownfield, 50, Carbon Hill Road, East Palestine, was sentenced to two years in prison for OVI. Her license was suspended for 99 years and she was fined $2,500. Brownfield has been convicted of one previous felony OVI convictions and three previous misdemeanor OVI convictions in the past 20 years.

Ted S. Bennett, Southeast Boulevard, Salem, was sentenced to a year in prison for OVI. His license was revoked for 15 years and he was fined $1,350. Bennett had five previous OVI convictions in the past 20 years.

Columbiana County Common Pleas

Jerome A. Hill, also known as Chicken, 30, Center Street, Wellsville, pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to four counts of trafficking in drugs and a single possession of drugs charge.

Hill sold cocaine to a confidential informant in 2013 on May 21, June 4 and June 18. Additionally, he had heroin intended for sale and was in possession of digital scale with cocaine residue both on May 7, 2014. He faces up to 12 years in prison, a $25,000 fine and a 25-year license suspension. Sentencing is set for May 11.

James K. Colian Jr., 27, West Pershing Street, Salem, was found in violation of his intervention in lieu of conviction treatment plan. He was sentenced to nine months in prison for the two counts of possession of drugs for heroin and methamphetamines he had on Sept. 18, 2013. He was credited with 124 days served.

Jerrid A. Kotsch, 29, Riffle Road, Rogers, was sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to several charges, including one for breaking into a home and another for striking a Columbiana County Drug Task Force Agent.

In Columbiana County Common Pleas Court, Kotsch pleaded guilty to burglary, assault, two counts of possession of drugs and one charge of possession of a drug abuse instrument. Kotsch broke into the home of Laura Kotsch, Carmel Achor Road, Rogers, by kicking open the door behind the home and stealing items including a television on Nov. 7, 2014. On the same date, he reportedly wrestled with the DTF agent, by striking him at the base of the neck, grabbing his sweatshirt and struggling with him on the ground. He also reportedly had heroin, alprazolam and syringes in his possession the the same date.

He asked for immediate sentencing. Kotsch was credited with 110 days already served in jail. In addition to the prison time, he had his license suspended for two years.

Columbiana County Common Pleas

Jesse L. Kessinger, 34, West Pine Street, Lisbon, pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to illegal possession of chemicals for the manufacture of methamphetamine. Kessinger faces up to three years in prison, a five-year license suspension and a $10,000 fine. The original indictment indicated additional charges of illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine, cultivation of marijuana and three counts of possession of drugs. Kessinger had the illegal chemicals on March 14, 2014. Sentencing is set for May 15.

Shannon M. Plater, 39, Youngstown, stipulated to violating her probation on convictions of possession of drugs and illegal conveyance of drug of abuse onto the grounds of a detention facility conviction for cocaine and marijuana concealed in her hand during booking at the jail on Oct. 16. The probation was dishonorably terminated and Plater was sentenced to nine months in prison with her license suspended for six months. She was credited with 148 days served.

Nicole R. O’Donnell, 24, Norwalk, was sentenced to five years intensive probation and had her license suspended for 12 months for possession of drugs for having heroin in a syringe during a search by her probation officer on April 10, 2013.

Columbiana County Common Pleas

In county Common Pleas Court, Robert K. Barrett, 30, East Fifth Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to eight months for violating the terms of his probation for charges of breaking and entering and criminal trespassing. The breaking and entering charge dealt with police investigating damage to plumbing, wiring and a staircase found in a building adjacent to the old YMCA building and finding Barrett inside on July 16, 2013.

Barrett was also charged with criminal trespassing for allegedly kicking in the back door of the home of Thomas Beaver, East Fifth Street, East Liverpool, on Aug. 13, 2013, demanding money, brandishing a hammer and putting holes in the wall. He was credited with 162 days served leaving him with 78 days to serve.

Patrick F. Brennan, 62, North Benton, pleaded guilty to OVI. He faces up to 30 months in prison, a $10,500 fine, mandatory drug and alcohol counseling, a lifetime’s license suspension and criminal forfeiture of a vehicle. Sentencing is set for May 4.

Patrick Griffith, 35, East Main Street, Salineville, pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to possession of drugs for buprenorphine he had on Nov. 1, 2013. Griffith faces up to 12 months in prison, a $2,500 fine and a 12-month license suspension. Sentencing is set for May 15.

Judson T. Edling, 28, West Pershing Street, Salem, was sentenced to eight months in prison for possession of drugs for meth on Sept. 21, 2013. Edling was credited with 68 days served.

Mitzi S. Stoddard, 25, Ravine Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for cocaine she had on Aug. 24, 2013. She was found eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction and placed on a four-year probation plan including spending up to the first six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center.
