LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP (WKBN) - The property of a former local country club will be up for auction after over 100 years in business.
The property, at 2485 Parkway Avenue in Liverpool Township, was used by the East Liverpool Country Club, which had been around for 106 years.
The East Liverpool Country Club has been in a lease agreement with The St. Clair Land Company since 1920. Jackman Vodrey, the president of The St. Clair Land Company, said that the club is required to pay The St. Clair Land Company $1 per year, as well as all of the expenses, which include the real estate taxes. Since the club has failed to pay the most recent real estate taxes, Vodrey said The St. Clair Land Company is terminating the lease. The St. Clair Land Company is taking both the land and the buildings so they can be put up for auction.
The 95+ acre property consists of a 7,700-square-foot clubhouse/banquet hall with a kitchen area and banquet hall area inside. There is also a nine-hole golf course and Pro Shop. The property also includes blacktop parking, an in-ground pool area and tennis courts.
Vodrey said the property is being put up for auction due to financial struggles and low club membership count; however, Vodrey said that there has been interest in the golf course and banquet hall for parties. Vodrey said they have not found anyone who wants to operate the East Liverpool Country Club as a whole. Vodrey hopes that someone will emerge and take over.
"We are hopeful that in the auction that takes place later this month, that somebody will pop up and continue running the club for the betterment of the community," Vodrey said.
The property will be auctioned off and sold in separate parcels.
