WELLSVILLE - Village council members approved part-time police officers and board appointments during its Oct. 6 meeting.
Lt. Marsha Eisenhart provided an update on an officer going on medical leave who could be off from six months to a year and a part-time officer who will be off for three to four months for shoulder surgery. She said a former officer who left for the Steubenville Police Department would like to come back part-time and there is one candidate in the police academy now who could be in a part-time position once he completes training.
Council members approved the reinstatement of one part-time officer and the addition of the part-time officer once he completes the academy to the department.
In other business, Eisenhart also said someone had a detour sign up at Third and Eighth streets causing semis to get stuck on Main Street and having to back up and try to go down Broadway since they can't get down the alley. Village Administrator Jerry Medley said the sign was not authorized by him.
Additionally, Medley said Hammond Park had been mowed again, and the crew was halfway through mowing at the cemetery. He also noted that maintenance needs done on a lot of things, and they were getting a truck ready for salting roads in case of snow.
