Liverpool Township fire chief reminds residents of burn ban and levy

By KRISTI R. GARABRANDT 4 min read

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP - Fire Chief Jacob Russell said during Tuesday's Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meeting that a burn ban is currently in effect with no burning permitted between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. He also noted that the township has a fire levy on the ballot for the Nov. 3 General Election and he wants to thank the residents with signs in their yard.

The trustees gave approval for Russell to get the oil changed in the fire department's pickup truck.

Police Chief Jarod Kinemond requested and was given approval for purchase of new tasers on a five-year plan with police association paying for the first two years and the department paying beginning in February 2029 the approximately $4,000 annual fees out of department budget. This approval is pending approval from the police association during their meeting to be held on Oct. 28. Kinemond noted the tasers the department has now are outdated, and he can no longer get replacement batteries for them since they are no longer made.

The number five car for the police department has a bad oil leak.

The township's Trick-or-Treat will be Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth said two of the department's vehicles need tires and he will get estimates for those and that the road department crew is working on replacing the stop and yield signs in the township that have been or broken post and they will continue to work on replacing those until the ground is frozen.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said the township received correspondence from the Ohio Department of Commerce pertaining to the renewal of retail liquor permits. If the township has any issues and doesn't want a permit renewed, they just have to let them know.

She also said the township received two of the certified letters mailed out for nuisance properties notifications back unclaimed return to sender and will be resent with certificate of mailing.

Flati reminded all the department heads that the departments really need to watch their spending and while they received some money from the county, they have not received it all.

Trustee Mike Bahen said the fire department did not receive the $130,000 FEMA grant they applied for to purchase all new turn out gear with, and he feels they should apply again when the grant application window opens again in the middle of the year. He also said that the ODNR Forestry grant would be coming out soon and even though that has a match, they should still apply for it.

Trustee Dennis Giambroni reminded the other trustees that they have to decide which candidate the township is going to back to fill the seat for an expiring term on the Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees. He noted there is one new candidate and a candidate who wants to renew for another six-year term to decide between. The trustees agreed to make the decision at their next meeting in case there are any additional candidates.

Multiple resolutions to supplement appropriations were approved including two for the General Fund in the amount of $5,500 for Trustees Salaries line item and $5,000 for the Medical/Hospitalization line item; for the Police District Fund in the amount of $16,000 for Other Salaries line item; for the Fire District Fund in the amount of $500 for Operating Supplies line item and for the Road and Bridge Fund in the amount of $5,000 for Operating Supplies (Fuel) line item.

Payment of bills totaling $48,700.17 and minutes from the regular meeting of Oct. 13 were approved.

The trustees voted to enter into an executive session for personnel matters to discuss compensation of a public employee and returned to an open meeting forum with no action taken.

The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building, 2485 Boring Lane, East Liverpool. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 10.
