CHESTER - An investigation is under way following a fatal structure fire Monday morning.
Hancock County dispatch received a call just after 7 a.m., Monday, of a house fire at 5684 Washington School Road, with a report of one person and animals unaccounted for. Crews from Lawrenceville and Chester volunteer fire departments were the first to respond, followed by Newell.
After the fire was extinguished, a search of the debris located a body inside the structure. The West Virginia Medical Examiner's Office is working to confirm identification.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Virginia Fire Marshal's Office, with assistance from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.
