Commissioners announce change in upcoming meeting dates

By MARY ANN GREIER 3 min read

LISBON -- The Columbiana County commissioners announced a change in upcoming meeting dates, moving their meeting the first week of November to Tuesday, Nov. 3 and eliminating the meeting the following week.

Commissioners normally meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday every week, but moved the Nov. 4 meeting to Nov. 3, which is Election Day.

The next meeting would fall on Nov. 11, but that's Veterans Day and the courthouse and county offices will be closed, so they decided not to meet that week. Ohio law requires commissioners to hold at least 50 regular sessions annually, so they can legally not meet for at least two separate weeks. This will be the first week that they won't be meeting this year.

In other business, commissioners appointed Aubrey Manning of Wellsville to the Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board to fill an unexpired term that expires June 30, 2027, with plans for the county MHRSB to then reappoint her to a full four-year term.

"We're finally at a full board," county MHRSB Executive Director Lori J. Colian said, expressing that she's happy about that.

The full board has a dozen members.

Concerning the county Department of Job and Family Services, commissioners followed the recommendations of Director Rachel Ketterman to approve changes to the Prevention, Retention, and Contingency Plan effective Oct. 1, adding cleaning services to part of the plan and updating language for the shoe voucher program for one voucher for 12 months instead of two vouchers per child.

Under new hires, they approved her request to hire Laura Zeh of Hanoverton as a fiscal specialist in the business office, explaining that a longtime fiscal specialist is retiring and training the other current fiscal specialist to take over her duties and then Zeh will be trained to do the second fiscal specialist's duties.

Case workers hired for the child support division included Alexis Kelly and Olivia Meredith, both of Lisbon, and Victoria Baughman of Poland.

Commissioners scheduled a public hearing at 9:05 a.m. Nov. 25 regarding a petition to vacate an unnamed alley in Unity Township at the request of petitioner Evan Oates. Also approved was a renewal postage machine lease agreement with Pitney Bowes for the county prosecutor.

Resolutions were approved for permits for Charter/Spectrum to install fiber optic lines on sections of East Liverpool Road in Madison Township, Y & O Road in Madison Township, Rochester Road in West Township, Middle Beaver Road in Elkrun Township and Buckeye Road in Madison Township.

The next meeting of county commissioners will be 9 a.m. Oct. 28 at the downtown courthouse.
