WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville school board approved several agenda items following an executive session for personnel matters.
While the agenda stated the executive session was to consider the discipline of a public employee, Board President Gary Althiser said it was for the consideration of the employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of a public official, which is how the Ohio Sunshine Manual list the allowed topics for an executive session under personnel.
After returning to an open meeting from the nearly three-hour long executive session, board members proceeded to vote on new business, finance and personnel agenda items, with two agenda items being tabled until the Oct. 19 meeting.
The school board tabled the administrative and non-bargaining unit personnel guidelines and the approval of a two-year contract for Melissa Antonio as transportation supervisor.
In other business, board members approved the following field trip requests: eighth- and ninth-grade and CCP American History to Washington, D.C. May 24-25; and seventh- and eighth-grade social studies to the Byham Theater on Dec. 10.
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Wellsville Teacher Association (WTA) which sets the number of workdays for positions included in the 2026-2027 school year; approved the 2026-2027 student handbooks for Pre-K at Garfield Elementary School; approved the 2026-2027 student handbook as presented for Daw and the Jr. Sr. High School; approved adult lunch prices; rescinded the Neola policy regarding attendance and absenteeism; appointed Allison Scott, Kevin Parking, Chris Hill, Erin Clemmer and Shelbie Householder at the district compliance officers; scheduled Oct. 22 and March 19 as district waiver days for the 2026-2027 year; and approved the strategic plan as presented.
Under fiscal matters the board approved donations for the AD Fund from OHSAA for $1,250; for the Back to School Bash from Robert's Funeral Home for $50; and Southfield Energy for $1,550 and the Garfield Principal Fund from the Wellsville Elks for $500.
Additionally, the board approved the agreement for Voice SIP Service for fiscal year 2027; the resolution to adopt the final appropriations for fiscal year 2026-2027; the service agreement with Radi-O Sound Communications for the 2026-2027 school year; the start-up change to Ryan Guisto (Nutrition Inc.) for all cafeterias; the contract with Rafter B Fencing to install fence at the Jr. Sr. High School; and the contract with Frontline to implement analytic solutions for the 2026-2027.
Under personnel, board members approved one substitute pending necessary paperwork; rescinded the motion to hire Annette Funk as year one bus driver and approved her for a year three bus driver; approved Matt Turcozy at 1/3 Math coach and 2/3 classroom teacher; approved Maxine Ross and Julie Fogle to split the Camp Fitch stipend for the 2026-2027 school year; approved multiple supplemental contracts and multiple Tiger Academy Online instructors.
The Wellsville Board of Education meets on the third Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in the media center at the Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 19.
