ELFD gifted multitool from Arcwood

EAST LIVERPOOL - The East Liverpool Fire Department Tuesday received of a new Genesis Combi Tool donated by Arcwood Environmental.

Chief Antony Cumo said he is appreciative of the new tool, noting it will be a great asset to the department which can use it for fires, car accidents or force entry if needed. He noted the new multi tool, which can cut or pry, will be used in addition to the tools that the department currently has that do one or the other.

The new tool will go on the big engine with the smaller ones being used on the tankers.

Kade Reynolds, community engagement manager for Arcwood Environmental, described the new tool as a tool that combines "cutting and spreading capabilities into one compact unit, giving firefighters additional flexibility when responding to vehicle accidents and other emergency rescue situations."

"We appreciate Arcwood Environmental for their donation of the Genesis Combi Tool," Cumo said. "This helps us tremendously, as we have been in the process of replacing our rescue tools over the past few years. We previously replaced our spreaders and cutters, commonly known as the "Jaws of Life," through a grant. This new tool is extremely versatile because it performs both functions and gives us a more compact option when needed. There is no doubt this tool will help us save lives in our community."

Reynolds noted that the investment in providing the tool aligns with Arcwood's Lead with Safety, which is one of the company's core values, that protecting human health and safety is at the heart of what the company does and serves as an example of the growing partnership between Arcwood and the city.

Reynolds also said that the firefighters serve as the first responders during some of the most challenging moments the community faces, so when the company has the opportunity to support them with resources or equipment needed to respond effectively and safely, the company is honored to make the investment.

Mayor Bobby Smith, who was present for the presentation of the new tool, expressed his appreciation for Arcwood's investment.

"This gives the professionals in our fire department even better tools to serve our community," Smith said. "Making people safer is a win-win for everyone and that aligns closely with what Arcwood does every day, working to make things safer and better for all of us."
