EAST LIVERPOOL -- Schools Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig shared his thoughts on the state report for the East Liverpool City School District with school board members Thursday night, with board members encouraging the public to get involved.
Ludwig highlighted that the Career Tech Program maintained a five-star rating earning eight out of nine markers for that program. He noted that the College and Career Readiness increased and is on the right track, and that North and Westgate elementary schools are the pride of the district.
"Looking ahead, we have work to do and I think everybody knows that. We recognize some of the progress we made, but we also embrace the work that is ahead," he said.
At October's board meeting each of the district principals will be presenting their building level plans, and Ludwig said he believes that will be beneficial for everybody.
Board member Tamar Cooper provided a word of encouragement for the district and issued a call for help to the public regarding the district. She said she works with a lot of staff during the year and sees a lot of passion and dedication toward improvements for the students. Then the state report card is released and can be a blow to the district, but she encouraged all the students and all the employees.
"I want to put a call out there to the parents and the caregivers to help us and be a part of the team in order to really know what is going on with your child; know where they are struggling, ask questions; go to parent teacher conferences," Cooper said. "If you see your child is off track, ask the questions of what you can do to assist and support the teachers and staff that are working so hard."
Board President David Hamilton encouraged any parent with a student in the district to attend the next board meeting and hear what their children's principals have planned.
Cooper also noted that it can be very discouraging when a progress report doesn't reflect the work that is being done and she wants everyone to know they see the work that is being done in the district. She said she is asking the public to keep fighting and show the students that the district can persevere as they dig in and hold themselves accountable. She said she board wants the parents to do better about holding themselves and the students accountable to do better so they can succeed.
In other business, the board approved the financial reports including the cash summary, cash reconciliation, and the receipt and expense reports for August 2026. The board also approved the Amended Certificate and Appropriations as presented to them.
For personnel, the board approved the resignations of Tammie Wolfe from her position of food service worker at North Elementary effective Aug. 27, 2026, and Cale Manbeck from his position of crossing guard at LaCroft effective Aug. 31, 2026.
A salary adjustment for Isabella Morris Green, who completed her master's degree, was approved moving her to the Step A-2 salary schedule which is $51,150.86 annually, retroactive to Aug. 31, 2026.
The East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Westgate Administrative Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 26.
