LISBON -- The Beaver Local School District earned a 4.5 star rating for the third year in a row from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
The ODEW recently released its annual public school district Report Cards, which reflect how each district and school is meeting state requirements in several measured categories.
"The district had many successes on the report card and have reason to celebrate. We will continue to use this data to set goals and identify areas needing improvement. This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families. Every day, our Beaver Local community works together to help our students learn, grow, and reach their full potential," the district said in a statement announcing the rating.
According to the Report Card for Beaver Local, in addition to earning an overall 4.5 star rating, the district earned high ratings in the measurement of graduation rate, achievement, progress, gap closing, college, career, workforce and military readiness, and early literacy.
Specifically, the district earned a 5-star rating for graduation rate, while the remaining categories measured earned four stars, with the exception of early literacy, which garnered three stars.
The district said the early literacy indicator was modified statewide this year.
"While this represents an area for continued focus, we are committed to using the data to identify opportunities for growth and improvement," the district said in the statement.
The district was also pleased to announce that its Performance Index score of 90.390 placed the district in the top third of schools in Ohio and third in Columbiana County.
The district noted that The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce also identifies 20 districts across Ohio that are most similar to Beaver Local based on a variety of factors. Of those 20 comparable districts, only four earned a 4.5-star rating -- including Beaver Local.
District officials said they are proud to see Beaver Local students and staff competing at a high level with districts across the state.
Furthermore, the district also pointed out that it met its chronic absenteeism goal and saw improvement in overall attendance, and also met the maximum growth in gifted students on the report card.
"We know that being at school every day matters. Regular attendance is an important part of student success, and improving attendance will continue to be a shared focus for our schools, students, and families," the district said.
The district credited the teachers, students, family and community for the success.
"Thank you to our incredible students, staff, and families for everything you do to make Beaver Local a terrific place to learn and grow. Our focus remains on helping students reach their maximum potential. We are grateful for the commitment of our staff, who tirelessly work to help each student become their best self. We are proud of what we have accomplished together -- and excited about what comes next," the district said.
