WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville Board of Education is finalizing its back-to-school preparations with the approval of multiple motions during Monday's meeting.
During new business, board members approved the acceptance of 17 donations totaling $6,300 for the AD Fund Golf Outing from multiple donors including Southfield Energy, the Elks, the American Legion, Betz, Care & Share, Wellsville Hall of Fame, Ed Wilson Services, Magic Moments, Crossroads at Beaver Creek and Wellsville NFS; a donation of $1,469.81 from the Orange and Black Boosters for the football team; and a donation of $1,155 from Lady Tiger Volleyball Boosters for the volleyball team.
The tentative bus schedule for the 2026-2027 school along with a resolution to employ substitute teachers with a temporary non-bachelor's substitute teaching license; two memorandums of understanding, one between OAPSE and the board of education and the other with the Wellsville Teacher Association extending the current collective bargaining unit for a period of one year through June 30, 2027; and the Tiger Academy Handbook for the 2026-2027 school year were approved.
During the finance portion of the meeting, board members approved the financial report including transfers and modifications of funds as presented to them and the Then and Now Certificates.
Also approved under finance were payment to parents who provide transportation because school conveyance has been determined impractical, nominations of a board member and alternate to attend the Ohio School Boards Association Conference in November 2027, the St. Paul and the East Liverpool Christian schools' pooling contracts and payments to the Multi County Juvenile Attention System for fiscal year 2027.
Additionally, the 2026-2027 service agreement with Safehouse Preparatory, the participation agreement for the Virtual Learning Academy and VC (Gradebook) Agreement from the 2026-2027 school year, the advisory services contract with Julian and Grube for fiscal year 2027, the memorandum of understanding with the Columbiana County Mental Health Clinic (dba The Counseling Center) for provision of suicide prevention education required by House Bill 123, the five-year forecast, eight federal grants for fiscal year 2027 and joining the FY27 IDEA Part B Early Childhood Special Education Consortium with the CCESC were approved under finance.
For personnel, board members approved Caden Weekley as high school football assistant coach, 33 classified or certificated substitutes, Sarah Saraniti as a nurse, and Lyndsy Kelly, a former Wellsville student, as a Jr. Sr. High School Science teacher with a one-year contract for the 2026-2027 school year.
Also approved under personnel was a motion to rescind Aleah Bach as an intervention specialist at Garfield Elementary and approve her as a certificated substitute for the 2026-2027 school year.
