Liverpool trustees thank township workers

By KRISTI R. GARABRANDT 3 min read

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP -- Trustee Dennis Giambroni opened Tuesday's Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meeting by giving a shout out to the township's road crew, fire and police departments, and East Liverpool Fire Department and EMS.

"They have been doing a phenomenal job and have been busy, with a rough couple of fires here in the last 24 hours," Giambroni said. "A city fireman got hurt -- thank goodness he didn't get hurt bad -- and we had a fatality in the city last night. Everybody is kind of pooling together and doing their thing and we as a township appreciate that and I just want to acknowledge that."

Giambroni went on to say that that goes for everybody, and the township has a lot of moving parts right now with the roads, crime, accidents and fires.

Kelly Russell, township resident, spoke out during the public portion of the meeting to give a shout out to the township's road crew for how they are taking care of the roads and for all the mowing they have done, and to the police and fire departments for being easy and accessible during all the times they have had to come to help her mother.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati told the trustees that she received a letter from Sgt. Jason Talbot requesting his five-year longevity pay increase of 25 cents be added to his hourly rate and his vacation time be increased from 3.1 to 4.6 since his five-year anniversary date was Aug. 19. His request was approved unanimously by the trustees.

Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth said that the mower has been fixed and reported that Mark O'Ryan who operates the business where the road department purchases its cutting edges from will be retiring and asked if they should purchase cutting edges now for winter or wait and find somewhere else to purchase them.

Bosworth said the four cutting edges, one for each truck, would run approximately $800 to $1,000. Bosworth was told to go ahead and get estimates on the cost to purchase four of them. He was also advised to look into getting an estimate on the cost of a fuel tank for the mower, so the road crew could carry extra fuel on them while mowing instead of having to leave where they are working to get more in the mower.

There were no reports from the police or fire departments.

Resolutions to supplement appropriations for the General Fund in the amount of $5,000 to the Fiscal Officer Salary line item and to reallocate appropriations for the Police District Fund in the amount of $1,500 from the Travel and Meeting line item to the Contracted Services line item were approved.

Payment of bills totaling $26,696.66 and the minutes from the Aug. 4 meeting were approved.

The trustees voted to go into an executive session for finance to discuss collective bargaining matters.

They returned from the executive session to an open meeting with no action taken.
