LISBON -- As the fall athletic season kicks off for schools, Beaver Local School District Superintendent Eric Lowe believes that several areas are essential to the continued success of local programs.
Lowe told the board of education during the August meeting that he recently reminded coaches to reinforce the things they learned at the speed and agility camp, including working to be the "best people they can be which enhances the entire school community."
Lowe noted that the emphasis on making a positive difference aligns with the district's theme for this year which is "The Power of One."
Lowe said the theme focuses on the idea that every individual within a school community has the ability to make a difference -- whether that is a teacher, administrator, support staff member, student, parent or community member.
"We can each make a difference," Lowe said. "Sometimes we underestimate the impact one person can have on another person's day, their experience in school or even their life. We want to begin this school year reminding everyone that their contribution matters."
Also during the meeting District Treasurer Stacy Williams presented the five-year financial forecast to the board.
She reported that Beaver Local has a positive outlook throughout the forecast period, while noting that there remain several unknowns due to recent legislative changes and new legislation being considered and implemented in Ohio.
Lowe also pointed out that changes to mathematics requirements and programming are on the horizon following the passage of a new Ohio Senate bill, with the district continuing to monitor the implications for Beaver Local students and staff.
Other items approved by the board included supplemental contracts for Mike Bowyer as middle school football coach and Steve Mercer as high school assistant football coach, and a supplemental contract for Brad Starkey as junior varsity girls basketball coach.
The board also rescinded the supplemental contract for Mike Woodburn for middle school football.
