WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville school Monday filled four key administrative positions.
The board unanimously hired Allison Scott as curriculum director/gifted coordinator/district test coordinator; Kevin Parkin and Chris Hill as the principal and assistant principal, respectively, at Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School; and Howard Williams as athletic director.
Scott is resigning as the jr. sr. high principal effective Aug. 1 for the coordinator position under a two-year contract.
"I am incredibly excited for this opportunity to continue serving Wellsville in this new role. As I begin my fourth year with the district, I bring experience working across all of our buildings and grade levels, which I believe will help ensure a smooth transition," Scott said. "I look forward to collaborating with Miss (Shelbie) Householder and Mr. (Kevin) Parkin as we continue the important initiatives that we have already started, while identifying new opportunities to strengthen teaching and learning."
Scott said that she believes in the direction the Wellsville School District is heading, and she is eager to help lead meaningful improvements that will positively impact every student.
Scott was selected from nine applicants for the position.
Parkin, who comes to Wellsville from Youngstown City Schools, said his decision was based on wanting to work closely with families.
"I think that was one of the big reasons why I wanted to come to a smaller place, so I could really get that feel of families and make sure that the work I'm doing is making an impact to help them with student achievements and the things they are doing in their lifetime," Parkin said.
Parkin also said his experience with a larger school district may help him assist teachers here with struggles they may have.
Chris Hill comes to Wellsville from Weir High School in West Virginia where he was the ninth and tenth grade assistant principal.
Hill said with the financial difficulties in the Hancock County School District he was looking at other opportunities. He said the position at Wellsville presented itself and he felt throughout the entire process Wellsville Schools would be a really good fit for him. He noted that Wellsville Schools is like a different world from the district he is coming from, but feels he will adapt and fit in well.
Parkin and Hill were both selected out of 19 applicants.
Howard Williams, currently a math teacher with East Liverpool City Schools, was selected to fill the position of athletic director. Williams said his decision to apply for the position was based on it being a step up and his passion for sports and desire to help kids.
Williams was selected from 25 applicants.
Superintendent Kyle Exline said Scott was selected due to her having background with each of the buildings in the district, which makes him feel Scott would be an easy connection in the position and the district is really excited to see what she has to offer in her new position.
Exline said throughout the interview process for principal, Parkin and Hill stood out as people that could help impact instruction and really run a building on their own. Parkin has a diverse skillset with experience in a lot of things that many principals don't actually have, so the district is excited to see what he has to offer.
With Hill already holding an assistant principal position prior to coming to Wellsville, Exline said he believes he will be an excellent addition to the district.
Exline described Williams as a as a bright young man who will be able to connect with the students, and the district is excited about his plans for the athletic department.
Exline said 20 interviews were conducted to fill the four positions.
