WELLSVILLE -- A community member recently advised village council of plans to hold a car show at Hammond Park.
Grant Barlow told council at its most recent meeting he will once again be part of a team organizing the Wheels in Wellsville Labor Day Car Show Sept. 7 at the park, with this year's proceeds going to playground equipment for the park.
Barlow requested the village address the potholes on Lisbon Street and in the park due to the number of people they anticipate coming through the village, and he also requested the park be mowed a week prior to the show, which will be held from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m.
Village Administrator Jerry Medley said the village employees would try their best to get it done for the car show.
Barlow also requested volunteers to help park cars on the day of the show.
In other business, council member Cindy Mick said the smoke testing on July 14 went well and was able to be completed to 11th Street.
Council also approved two ordinances - one for advertising lawn care for Spring Hill Cemetery, the flood wall and Hammond Park, and the other to amend an existing ordinance to require backfilling.
The backfilling amendment requires anyone doing work in the village use suitable backfill approved by the village for any project that includes opening of pavement. The backfilling must be completed within 14 days of project completion.
Legislation to prohibit the parking and storage of boats, watercraft and boat trailers on village streets and public rights of way was placed on second reading.
A street closing request for Center Street between 13th and 14th streets for an anniversary party on Aug. 29 from 3 to 7 p.m. was approved.
Minutes from the July 7 meeting were approved as presented, and bills totaling $65,667,73 were approved for payment.
The Wellsville Village Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in council chambers at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 3.
