WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville school board Monday approved new software to communicate with parents.
The board approved the use of Parent Square as the district's new communication software. Parent Square will be used during the 2026-2027 school year by all district staff members to communicate with parents.
In other business, the board approved the financial report, transfers and modifications of funds and then and now certificates during the finance portion of the meeting. The board also approved the revised temporary appropriations and certificate of resources for fiscal year 2027; the scrapping of buses number five and six which are no longer of use to the district; participation in the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy of School Funding for fiscal year 2027 and to pay the dues in the amount of $1,218, subject to change based upon student enrollment headcount and the renewal of the cyber liability policy through McBane Insurance and Financial Services for fiscal year 2027.
During the new business portion of the meeting, board members approved donations for the Jr. Sr. High Cheer in the amount of $500 from the Loud and Proud Boosters and the Jr. Sr. High Track in the amount of $500 from the Wellsville Elks.
Also approved under new business were the 2026-2027 student handbooks for Garfield Elementary, Daw Elementary and the Jr. Sr. High School.
During the personnel portion of the meeting, in addition to the board filling key positions in the district, multiple other positions were approved to be filled as well.
Wellsville Jr. Sr. High principal Allison Scott resigned her position as principal and filled the curriculum director/gifted coordinator/district test coordinator position. The curriculum director position was vacated with the board's approval of the resignation of Alaina Kilpatrick who previously held the position.
Kevin Parkin was approved as principal, and Chris Hill was approved as assistant principal for the jr. Sr. high school and Howard Williams was approved as athletic director.
Also approved were three coaches, five supplemental contracts, nine mentors, a classified bus driver and a full-time paraprofessional.
The resignation of Jon Geramita, Jr. Sr. High School intervention specialist effective Aug. 24, was accepted and approved.
Also approved under personnel were motions to approve the proposals from West Point Paving to fix the parking lots at Daw Elementary and the Administration Building and the Project Inspire agreement with the Columbiana County Educational Service Center for fiscal year 2027.
Minutes from the June 6 and June 16 special meetings and the June 29 regular meeting were approved as presented.
Prior to the regular meeting, the Records Committee met and approved the minutes from the Aug. 18 records meeting and approved a motion to not dispose of any records from fiscal year 2026 and prior. This is a meeting required to be held yearly by the State of Ohio for the district to be able to dispose of any records.
The next regular meeting of the Records Committee will be determined at the fiscal year 2027 organization meeting.
The Wellsville Board of Education meets the third Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in the media center at Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School, 1 Bengal Blvd. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 17.
