LISBON -- Columbiana County homeowners with failing septic systems may be eligible for financial assistance through a new $200,000 grant awarded to the Columbiana County Health District.
The funding, provided through the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Pollution Control Loan Fund, will help eligible homeowners repair or replace failing household sewage treatment systems or connect to a public sewer system.
Depending on household income, the program will cover 50%, 85% or 100% of eligible project costs.
To qualify, the septic system must meet Ohio’s definition of a failing household sewage treatment system, serve a private residence and be located at the applicant’s primary residence. Applicants also must own and occupy the home, and household income must be at or below 300% of the federal poverty level.
Applications are now being accepted. Interested homeowners should review the program information and eligibility requirements, complete the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund homeowner application and submit it to the Columbiana County Health District by Aug. 14.
Health officials said homeowners who applied for assistance through previous Water Pollution Control Loan Fund programs but were not approved must submit a new application to be considered during the current funding cycle.
Applications and additional program information are available on the Columbiana County Health District website or at the health district office during regular business hours. Homeowners also may contact the health district for more information.
