LISBON -- A Lisbon man charged with felonious assault and other counts related to a 2025 shooting in Madison Township will face sentencing at 10 a.m. Aug. 28 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court after entering a guilty plea.
Hunter Congrove, 23, state Route 45, pleaded guilty to felonious assault, a second-degree felony, a firearm specification and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. A first-degree felony charge of kidnapping will be dismissed. He had been scheduled for a jury trial, but entered the plea instead.
According to a county sheriff's report, the sheriff's office received a call at 4:07 p.m. March 12, 2025 from a woman who said a man she knew shot another man in the leg with a shotgun. The report indicated a sergeant with the sheriff's office was able to talk with the victim before he was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment from East Liverpool City Hospital.
The victim advised they were in the house and the shooter was high on drugs when he pulled a shotgun on him, he told him to go ahead and shoot him and he shot him. The suspect fled the residence in a Jeep before deputies arrived.
The suspect was later taken into custody on other charges after deputies received a report of a suspicious person on Mick Road in Yellow Creek Township where a woman reported arriving home to find a man in the driveway with a gas can sitting close to him and he had a dog on a leash at 6:58 p.m. March 12, 2025. The man was taken into custody when deputies arrived and the Jeep was found on Y&O Road.
Congrove was identified as the shooter and suspicious person.
In February this year, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts fourth-degree felony assault and misdemeanors of aggravated menacing, obstructing official business and resisting arrest for a 2024 incident. He received credit for 269 days already served in jail.
He was accused of biting a police officer, attempting to grab his taser and kicking another police officer in the face during a physical altercation while they were trying to take him into custody for an incident in St. Clair Township on July 26, 2024. An affidavit said he started to resist and got into the altercation with police, who took him to the ground and tased him during the scuffle. He also gave several fake names and lied about his identity.
