East Liverpool school board approves personnel changes

EAST LIVERPOOL – During the personnel section of the East Liverpool Board of Education meeting June 25, board members approved multiple resignations and hirings.

Resignations accepted and approved include those of band instructor Josh Sipe effective Aug. 1; bus driver Mary Beth Hazelet and high school social studies teacher Rhett Ahart, both for retirement purposes, both effective June 5; and Cam Douglas, boys reserve basketball coach for the 2026-2027 school year.

Board members approved the hire of two classified substitutes, five supplemental employees, two classified appointments, three certified appointments, four classified employees, 22 event workers and one administrative appointment.

A two-year contract renewal was approved for Katie Davis, a teacher at LaCroft Elementary.

Board members also approved professional development stipends for teachers and administrators.

Under finance, the board members voted to approve the financial reports including cash summary, cash reconciliation, receipt and expense report for May 2026 as it was presented to them.

Board members also approved the renewal of the district’s comprehensive insurance plan with the Ohio School Plan, the purchase of extended warranties for the new buses, the OMERESA cooperative servicing resolution and the renewal of the contract with Staci Wills for vision services.

The board additionally approved under the finance the authorization of the treasurer to make advances/transfers/expenditure adjustments and/or appropriation modification as required to close fiscal year 2026, establishment of temporary appropriations and the adoption of temporary appropriations for fiscal year 2026 at 75% of fiscal year 2026 general fund appropriations and ending balances for all other funds and a resolution for the submission of fiscal year 2026 program proposals for Title I, Title IIA, IDEA B (special education), Pre-School Special Education Grant Rural and Low Income, Title IV-A, Career Technical and Early Childhood Education.

There was no correspondence, old business, or new business to discuss.

Board members voted to enter into an executive session for personnel matters and returned to an open meeting with no action taken.

The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Westgate Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 23.
