EAST LIVERPOOL -- The East Liverpool Board of Education Thursday welcomed new staff members who were present and approved multiple resignations, hirings and staff changes.
Resignations were approved for Howard Williams, high school math teacher, wrestling coach and assistant football coach, and Erica Ward, eighth grade volleyball. Both resignations are for the 2026-2027 school year.
Ward was then approved for the 2026-2027 school year for volleyball as varsity assistant and Ryan Smith was approved for volleyball, seventh grade.
Hirings or renewals were approved for 11 classified substitutes, 14 food service substitutes, seven supplementals, six classified appointments, four certified appointments, and three volunteers.
Per the superintendent Johnathon Ludwig's recommendations, the board approved the contract for photography and media services with Legacy Studios by JJS for the 2026-2027 school year and the Marching Band's trip to Disney World in February.
For finances, board members approved the financial reports including cash summary, cash reconciliation and receipt and expense reports for the June as presented to them and the administrative salary schedule for fiscal year 2027.
Board President David Hamilton said the Athletic Committee met on July 5 with the athletic director Jason Dukes and Ludwig and discussed the spring sports recap, the ongoing coaches' evaluations, the memorandum of understanding for the girls wrestling program and amendments to the drug policy with the district still continuing to test student athletes.
Hamilton also noted the district received a donation of an AED machine from the girls' basketball program which will be placed at Patterson Field and a rotation of uniforms is coming up.
There was also a discussion on facilities which need work done on them and some fundraising ideas.
Board Member Tamar Cooper said the Curriculum and Technology Committee met on July 16, and they discussed the cyber security program, which is underway, scheduling procurement for the ninth-grade Chromebooks for the 2027-2028 school year.
She noted there are plans to audit the 22 rooms in the district that have old projectors which they will be replacing with LED displays at a cost of approximately $800 to $900 per room and the district's IT person is working with Anson Wiegand on that. Priority for the LED Screens will be given to Career Tech and Special Education rooms.
There are no new curriculum purchases for the coming year but there are renewals in progress, Cooper said.
Cooper also noted that the CLSD quarter four reporting is complete and there was an audit for grant which went well with no errors identified
The Audit/Finance/Legal Policy Committee will meet in August. No date has been announced yet. The Buildings and Grounds Committee will meet at the Westgate Administration Building on July 27 at 8 a.m. The Personnel Committee will meet on Aug. 17 at the Westgate Administration Building. No time has been announced yet. The East Liverpool High School Alumni Association City Schools Education and Scholarship Fund will meet in September.
The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., at the West Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 27.
