EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool America 250th Celebration held downtown on Saturday following the Revolutionary War Monument dedication provided food, fun, entertainment, three hot dog eating winners and four pie contest champions.

Winners of the pie baking contest, one in each category, include Jean Buck with a coconut cream pie, Rebecca Lang with her fresh pickled blueberry pie, Amy Best with her mocha Oreo pie and Collen Fitzergerald with her strawberry pie.

The pie baking contest was judged at the Masonic Lodge which also had on display a wide variety of quilts

The hot dog eating contest where the six participants had five minutes to eat as many hot dogs with buns as they could resulted in a three-way tie, with Jerry Highley, Michael Lamp and James Field eating eight hot dogs each.

The heat didn’t stop attendees from checking out the variety of activities including chalk art, inflatables and free snow cones at the East Liverpool Carnegie Public Library; shopping at both outdoor vendor tables, including a fresh flower vendor and food vendors; the Amazing History Race hosted by the Upper Ohio Valley Museum; and local downtown businesses which remained open throughout the event, as well as gathering at the stage for live entertainment.

In addition to live entertainment at the stage set up for the event, attendees were serenaded by the Keystone Chorus Barber Shop Quartet as they strolled throughout the event.

Some found ways to stay cool by going to Museum of Ceramics for the Printing Freedom exhibit, sculpting with clay, calligraphy or to a catch a showing of The Music Man.

Fire Chief Antony Cumo stayed cool by taking a dunk as attendees tried their pitching arm at the dunking machine.

The event had been nearly a year in the planning by the ladies of the East Liverpool Beautification Society. It was intended to be a very patriotic, community oriented event.
